The Gretna Green school community is very pleased to announce that Miss Elaine Murray will be teaching Kindergarten until Mrs. O'Toole's maternity leave is complete in early December. As well, Ms. Rebecca Hitchman will be teaching Grade Five until Ms. Bransfield's maternity leave is complete in late January. Mrs. Kerri Ann Warren will also be returning as our Guidance Counsellor. We are excited to welcome these ladies back to our staff in addition to our very own Mr. Ryan who recently accepted a full time position as physical education teacher at Gretna Green, yeah for all of us!
The entire team of teachers at Gretna Green Elementary would like to thank our support staff, parents, students and community partners for making this year such a memeorable one. May you all have a fun, active and joyous summer! We all look forward to seeing you once again in September!
Registration for the Timbit Tumblers Summer Gymnastics program will be this Monday, June 20th from 5:30-8:30 pm at the Douglastown Community Center. The annual grade five banquet was held today. Each and every student was recognized for their contribution to the life of Gretna Green Elementary. The banquet was followed by an awards ceremony. All students and staff were invited to the gym to join in the celebration. We would like to thank all those involved for making today's grade five celebration such a huge success!
Our school librarian, Ms. Lavoie-Somers, would like to remind all of our students to please return their library books no later than Monday, June 20th. All student library books were returned last year so let's make it two years in a row boys and girls!
Registration for Boys and Girls Club summer day camps are now taking place from Monday to Thursday 9:00 -3:00 pm and on Friday 9:00-1:00 pm. Seventeen camps are now available for this summer for students in kindergarten to grade 5. All camps focus on fun, friendship, and building great summer childhood memories! The teachers of Gretna Green Elementary recently took part in the annual Relay For Life walk in support of cancer research. The entire teaching staff was well represented and made a valuable contribution to the cause. We are happy to note that over $2500.00 was raised on behalf of Gretna Green Elementary. We would also like to thank our team leader Ms. Hitchman who spear headed this campaign. Job well done to Ms. Hitchman and the entire team!
WHEN: Wednesday June 22, 2011 (throughout the morning in Mrs. Morehouse’s classroom)
WHAT: Students bring in books that they no longer want to read and are willing to donate to the Summer Reading Swap. (Students can start bringing donated books into the school now.)
HOW: Classes will take turns viewing donated books and each student will pick “new” ones to take home to read and enjoy for the summer.
Today was day one of our road hockey league play action. The habs came away with a close 1-0 win over the Bruins. The only goal of the game was scored by Denver. Great job boys and girls!
Grade four students, Jacob and Arthur, took on a leadership role recently at Gretna Green Elementary. They took it upon themselves to create their own road hockey league for students in grades three to five. They created a schedule, teams and went over rules with perspective players. Great job boys and it is great to see you both providing this fun activity to your peers, bravo!
