Update for Parents & Guardians!

Posted: September 2, 2020

Welcome back Gators!  We cannot wait to welcome your children back into our school for the 2020-21 school year.  We look forward to a safe return for our students and staff.  Because safety is our number one priority during this pandemic year, we have made some changes to our usual routines and operations in order to prioritize our school community’s health and wellbeing during this return to in-school learning.  We thank for your continued understanding and support of these efforts.  The information below has been emailed to all parents and guardians as well as being posted on our school facebook page.

STAGGERED ENTRY

All K-8 classes will follow their own staggered entry schedule for the first week of school (K students will follow a staggered schedule for the first two weeks of school).  All parents should have received this information.  If you did not receive an email, contact krista.bransfield@nbed.nb.ca.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Parent and visitor access to the school will be limited this year.  It will be by appointment only.  This includes the first day of school; parents will be unable to enter the building with their children.

SCHEDULING

Our start/end times remain the same as previous years.  3-8 students start their day at 8:10 am while K-2 students start their day at 9:00 am.  Dismissal time remains 2:20 for all students.

DROP-OFF

Drop-off times remain the same.  3-8 parents may drop their children off beginning at 7:50.  K-2 children may be dropped off starting at 8:40.  All students will be dropped off at the drop-off door (the door will be marked with signage).  Parents will follow the line of traffic, drop off their children, remain at the cars, then continue on so that the next parent can drop off their children.

PICK-UP

Students can be picked up at 2:20 at the pick-up door.  Parents are to remain at their cars and children will be brought to them.

CLASSROOM BUBBLES

Students’ homeroom classes will serve as their bubble.  They will learn, eat, and play exclusively with the children in their own class.  They will not need to socially distance within this group.

MASKS

All students will need to bring a clean mask to school each day.  Masks will be worn when students are not in their classroom bubble and social distancing is not possible.  Examples include:  transitioning to a different location within the school, entering and leaving the building, going to the washroom, entering and exiting the bus, riding the bus (6-8 students).

BUSSES

ASD-N students will have one pick-up location in the morning and one drop-off location in the afternoon during the 2020-21 school year.  There will be no alternate stops this year.  All children will wear a mask getting on and off the bus.  They must sit in the same seat each day.  Grades 6-8 students must wear a mask on the bus.

Should parents need to pick their child up from school (instead of taking the bus), a note must be sent with the student that morning.

LATE STUDENTS

The drop-off door will be locked once the bell rings.  If your child is late, they should go to the main office door.  They can enter the vestibule (the inside door will be locked) and our administrative assistant will buzz them in.

ILLNESS

If your child is ill, they must remain home until they are not displaying any symptoms.  If your child becomes ill at school, they will need to be picked up as soon as possible.

WATER BOTTLES

Water bottles will be needed for all students during the day.  Our fountains will be retrofitted with bottle fillers only this year.  Classrooms are also equipped with sinks for refilling water bottles throughout the day.

LUNCH TIME

Grades 6-8 students will eat in the cafeteria within their classroom bubble.  Grades K-5 students will eat in their individual classrooms.  Microwaves will not be available for K-5 student use; please ensure your elementary student has a “no-heat” lunch.  GG Food Services will once again be our cafeteria provider and all students will be able to order meals from them.  The start date for 2020-21 will be announced.  K-5 meals will be delivered to their classrooms.

BREAKFAST PROGRAMME

Our breakfast programme will once again be available for our students starting the first week of October.
