Posted: March 11, 2019

Welcome back. Already week 2 into March. I enjoyed listening to students stories about their March Break adventures.

A STEM Fair notice was uploaded to my page prior to the break. A reminder that March 19th is STEM Fair at school for those presenters who chose to participate. Students may bring in their projects this Thursday and Friday if they wish to finalize and practice presenting.

*** Please ensure white homework binders are brought to school on Mondays for student’s weekly work and that reading bags are brought daily for notices, handouts, etc.***

French - Our sound of the week will be “Cc = Ss” and a sheet entitled “C’est mars.” Sheets will be sent home on Tuesday. Our animal and pet unit will continue. This week’s goal is to begin describing various feature of animals i.e. whether they have fur, feathers, scales, etc.

Guided reading will also take place with myself during our Daily 5. Whilst a group is reading, others will be working in various centers. Students will receive new book within a 4 day cycle to be brought home along with their new sound and song/poem sheet of the week. Please note that year end expectation for students is to be within the F-G-H range.

Math - We will be practicing our multiplication daily during our morning routine. We have already worked up to 2x12 and will concentration on the 3’s for the next 2 weeks. Our focus this week will be the use of matrices (a.k.a. a group of objects organized into equal rows) to assist with multiplying. Please feel free to go to Learn Alberta website found in my web links to practice various outcomes. Math Reflex is also another great resource that students have been practice here at school.

Health - Students will be recreating the Canadian Food Guide by cutting out and gluing pictures from flyers. We will be discussing the various groups and recommended servings, whilst learning new vocabulary.

Social Studies - Students will be learning all about maps and how to read them with the assistance of cardinal points and a legend.

Please refer to our school website regularly for important information and postings. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at school. I will respond via phone call as promptly as I can. Let’s have a great week! Cheers :)

REMINDERS:

Please do not forget snow pants and mitts for outdoor recess.

March Scholastic flyer will be sent home March 12th. Orders will be due at the end of the month.
