THE SH SOUND
Consonant Digraphs: are two consonants together that say one sound.
Today our class looked at words with the sh sound ie. shout, ship, push, dish. When your child reads to you, have them look for words that begin and end with sh. Next week we will be reviewing the th sound (we like to call it the rude sound).
SPELLING WORDS (test on Thursday)
bump, dump, jump, pump, stump
We are working on the ump word family this week. These words also have the short u sound.
SHORT U
Students will learn some tricks to help them with the short u sounds:
1. When a word or syllable has only one vowel and it comes at the beginning of a word, that vowel makes a sound that is called "short" ex. umbrella, under, up, us
2. When a word or syllable has only one vowel and it is between two consonants, the vowel makes a sound that is called "short" ex. dug, rug, duck, skunk
