To finish our Science unit on Soils, we created "Soil Peeps". We put soil and grass seed in nylons and decorated them to make them our own.  We have them in our classroom in a spot that gets lots of sun.  We also water them often.  After only two weeks they have started to sprout hair.  Some of them have hair that is 4 cm long!  The ones that have the humus soil seem to be growing the best. The ones that have soil made of more rock and sand only have a few sprouts!
