The grade two and three students played in our first annual Gretna Green Outdoor Hockey tournament today. The students had a great time and they all played exceptionally well. Congratulations to the Oilers who were victorious. Members of the team included, Blake Bransfield, Charles Hutchison, Lilly Trevors, Kevin Walsh and head coach Mitchell King.
The Home & School has extended its deadline for returning the Spell-A-Thon pledge money to tomorrow (Tuesday) and the assembly will now be held on Wednesday. A BIG thank goes out to Tricia Rooney for coming to the school this morning to count the pledges we received so far. Also, thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising initiative this year.
Congratulations to our very own Kale Power who won in the district 16 "So You Think You Can Dance" competition. His dance had all the moves and certainly impressed the judges. Well done Kale and congratulations to all the finalists that represeneted Gretna Green! Check out Kale's dance under the GG Times tab.
The entire teaching staff would like to extend their sincerest thank you to all the parents who contributed to this week's Teacher Appreciation Week. We realize that this week's slice of appreciation is but a mere sample of the gratitude we receive from all of you throughout the year. You really do contribute to the quality of learning for all of our students and teachers and for that we thank you!
A special congratulations goes out to our very own Ms. Matheson and her students who recently received a district 16 CUTE Award for their teacher class page. They should all be very proud of this recent accomplishment and we look forward to viewing the awesome showcase of student talent that is often displayed on this page!
A sea of pink flowed through the halls of Gretna Green today. Many of our students and staff wore pink to loudly say that we have taken a stand against bullying. Thanks to all those who showed their school spirit today!
Gretna Green is planning our first ever Family Winterlude on February 17th at Gretna Green Elementary. Families within our learning community are invited to take part in a variety of evening outdoor activities from 6:00-8:00 pm. These activities include skating, snow shoeing and cross country skiing by moonlight. Snow shoes and cross country skis will be provided for our students. We would also ask our students to please wear a helmet when skating. If any of you have head lamps please bring them along.

This year's ceremony will be on February 15th at 7:00 pm in the James M Hill auditorium. We encourage all our community members to attend this wonderful ceremony and support this year's finalists. We have some exciting news regarding our very own Brydie Trevors. Brydie was recently selected as a provincial finalist in the legion remembrance day essay contest. Guess what? She won first place honors!!! Brydie's winning entry has been sent to Ottawa for the national contest. Brydie was prensented with a plaque and a one hundred dollar cheque by our local legion for her recent accomplishments. Good luck Brydie!!!
