Numbers

We are now beginning our first unit on Numbers.  In this unit, children explore the numbers 1 to 5.  Children need lots of practice using numbers in situations where they can be successful and have fun.  As they play games and participate in meaningful counting activities, they develop concepts about counting that provide the foundation for future mathematics learning.  Encourage your child to find opportunities to count to 5.   These are the key learning goals for this unit: You can count the things in a set in any order. For example, if you count a red truck, a blue truck, and a green truck, you can start counting with any of the trucks and count them in any order.  The number of trucks is always the same: 3. The things you count do not need to be the same.  For example, you can count a book, a crayon, and a shoe to find out there are 3 things.
