Our school soccer team recently participated in the Nelson Days Soccer Jamboree and came out with a first place finish. Mr. Ryan would like to thank his team for a great effort as they represented Gretna Green Elementary exceptionally well. What a great way to start a season, well done boys and girls!

School students in the Miramichi region are once again being offered free admission to four classical music concerts scheduled during this school year. The concerts feature young professional Canadian musicians who are highly trained and often have international experience. This season’s series includes a clarinet and piano duo (September 23), Mozart’s opera Cosi Fan Tutte (November 17), a woodwind quartet (February 19) and a guitar trio (April 12) These concerts are organized by Jeunesses Musicales Canada – Miramichi and are held at Carrefour Beausoleil starting at 7:30 p.m.
Again this year, we will be hosting a "Welcome Back To School Cake Delight Night" celebration on Thursday, September 13th. We will be offering a selection of tasty cakes from 6:00-6:45 p.m. At this time, parents can seize the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher while snacking on cake. At 6:45 p.m., families will be invited to the gym for PSSC elections. We hope you can join us.
Soccer and cross country running will be offered to our students once again this year. Soccer will be held on Monday's from 2:30-3:30 for students in grades four and five. Cross country running will be held on Wednesday's from 2:30-3:30 for students in grades three to five. We would like to thank Mr. Ryan for enriching the lives of our students through physical activity once again this year! He will also be receiving extra help from Mme Gallant and Mr. Glazier as well. Thank you all so much!
The Douglastown Lions Club were honored today during our "Back To School Assembly". They were presented with the "Community Friend Award" for their many years of dedication and support of student based activities at Gretna Green Elementary. The entire learning community of Gretna Green is very happy to welcome three new teachers to Gretna Green. Mrs. Nancy Walls will be teaching kindergarten. Mr. Ryan Glazier will be teaching grade 3 Immersion and Mlle Christine Steeves will be teaching grade 5 Immersion. All three of them will make a wonderful addition to the awesome teaching staff of Gretna Green Elementary, welcome!
We would like to remind all parents that the first day of school for students will be Wednesday, September 5th. Kindergarten students will be following the staggered entry as already scheduled. Enjoy these last few days of summer holidays and we look forward to seeing you in the new year.
