The entire learning community of Gretna Green Elementary would like to congratulate Mrs. O'Toole on the recent arrival of her first child. Brett was born on November 30th at 10:18 pm and he weighed 9lbs 2 ounces. We all know that Mrs. O'Toole and her husband Jamie will make wonderful parents, bravo!
Our very own custodian is sporting a new look today. Mr. McKinnon has had his trademark moustache since 1986. In support of the Movember campaign he decided to go stacheless. Wow what dedication to a worthwhile cause. I think we can all agree that Mr. McKinnon looks ten years younger!
Gretna Green were caught in a time warp today as they took in some fun filled activities that were popular back in the 80's! In celebration of Gretna Green's 30th anniversary monthly activities have been ogranized. Today students played marbles, hopscotch, flipped cards and tried their best at double dutch. The epidemic of bad facial hair sprouting on the faces of Mr. Cabel, Mr. MacIntosh and Mr. Ryan was not an effort to sport a new "facial fashion". Luckily, it was for a good cause: The Movember campaign, which encourages men to grow moustaches during the month of November to raise money for the fight against prostate cancer, afflicts one in six men. We applaud these three young men for supporting a great cause, bravo!
The entire learning community of Gretna Green recently banded together in support of our student David Wilson. David will be undergoing a surgery in the coming weeks. A recent benefit organized by a wonderful group of parents exemplified the strong community spirit that flourishes among our parents, students and teachers on a daily basis. Students in grades 3 to 5 have begun their annual Chess Club today. Chess is being played on Wednesday's and Thursday's this year for all those students who have joined. It is a great way to exercise our mental stamina and the kids are having fun!

The students at Gretna Green received a fascinating presentation from the MAD Science Institute. The students were asked to hypothesize, predict and follow the scientific process of inquiry during a series of cool experiments with dry ice and other materials. Many of our students will be registering for the science after school program that begins on Thursday November 18th from 2:30-3:30. The program will last for six weeks excluding Christmas holidays and into January. Anyone who is interested may register at the school. Cost for the program is $65.00 per student, $120.00 for two student
The Gretna Green students who won the Morning Announcement Song contest had the opportunity to experience what it is like to sing in a real recording studio. They gave their best performance in the JMH studio this morning! The professionally produced songs they wrote and recorded will soon be ready for us to hear. Well done Gretna Green students!
