Home Learning - November 1st - 5th (Grades 4/5)

Posted: November 1, 2021

Hi everyone! Please find attached documents with everything you will need for this week of home learning. In line with regular course work, students are expected to complete three hours of Language Arts per week. Each day of Language Arts will consist of:

Daily Bell Ringer - Students will find attached daily bell ringer writing prompts and sheets to complete them (they can also be completed on any paper they have available). Students are expected to write approximately one paragraph. Each bell ringer should take students approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Read-to-Self - Students should be reading an appropriate book at their level for approximately 15 minutes each day. If they have time to read more, they are encouraged to do so.

Writing Prompt - I have attached longer writing prompts for students to complete. They will find three of them for this week. Students are asked to write as much as they possibly can and be creative with the topics given. This should take approximately 20 minutes.

Dreamscape/Squiggle Park/Online Games - I have included a page of links that gives students access to several online games covering topics that are often used in class. Note that some of these may require making a free account. Some may alsp require Flash Player. Students also have access to either Dreamscape or Squiggle Park. Reminder for those playing Dreamscape that they must read the questions thoroughly before answering. If they do not know their username or password to either game, please email me and I will get them the information right away. They should be playing one of these for approximately 20 minutes each day.

No Excuse Words - I have posted the no excuse words list for students to practice while they are at home. Remember, there are fun ways to learn and practice spelling (not just memorize). Students can use word searches, word chants, body spelling, writing on windows/whiteboards with whiteboard markers, writing with sidewalk chalk, word unscrambles, word puzzles, etc.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via my work email and I will be happy to help in any way. Thank you!
