On Thursday September 24, many members of the Miramich Police Force and Grade 5 students from Gretna Green gathered together to celebrate the life of "Koala" the beloved Police Canine who passed away earlier this year. The Miramichi Police Department planted a tree on the grounds of Gretna Green in memory of Koala.  The Grade 5 students at Gretna Green Elementary have agreed to take good care of the tree.  As well, a plaque with a picture of Koala hangs proudly in the entrance of Gretna Green Elementary.

Mr. Richardson, our guidance counsellor, worked with a small group of students to create a photo story giving student tips on making friends.  Be a Friend to Make a Friend is a slogan that Gretna Green students try to play by.  This photostory reminds students of things they can do to help make friends.

On Friday May 29, 2009, with the help of our Student Council, the Circus came to Grenta Green.  It was called a Circus of Conventions because, as a school, we were focusing on the Writing Trait of Conventions. Staff and students came to the gym on Friday afternoon, listened to one writing piece  from each grade level and then particpated in fun circus activites.  The afternoon ended with draws for free tickets to the circus that is coming to the Civic Center on June 5!  A fun time was had by all!

On Tuesday, May 19th,  Mrs. Frost's Grade 3 went Geocaching with Dr. Bob, Mr. Savoy and Mrs. O'Neill-MacDonnell.  We used the GPS to help us find the geocaches.  They were hidden in bushes, and between rocks and by the fences.  When we found them there were slips of paper in them.  You would pick one out and put it in your bag.  When we found them all, there was a special one.  We found them for Fairy Tales.  On each piece there was something you need to write a fairy tale.  There were two characters, a beginning, an ending and a setting.  Now we are working on them in class.
