Welcome back to another great year at Gretna Green!  We are looking forward to a great year in grade four.  I am pleased to say that we have another student intern joining us this year, Mr. Johnathan MacIntosh.  He is finishing up his education degree from the University of New Brunswick.  He will be with our class until December.  We are very happy to have him with us!

Our grade 3 classes were lucky to take part in District 16's new Outdoor Adventure program.  We had a fun day geocaching at French Fort Cove with Mr.Rodney Buggie.  Our students truly enjoyed this adventure and the beautiful day outside!

Day 2 of building saw some improvement.  The students were beginning to realize that their structures needed a better foundation and support.  Each group produced a product that could stand by itself, but they did realize that they would not last.  We discussed what we could do to create a stronger structure, and will attempt again in the future to put their thoughts to the test.

We have been studying structures in Science.  The class was given the simple task of creating a structure that would stand by itself, using only the materials they were given.  Each group was given 100 straws, two blocks of modeling clay, and one meter of tape.  The groups worked well together and had made some interesting discoveries on day one of this project.  See the image gallery below to see how they made out!

Every Friday afternoon, we meet with our kindergarten buddy class.  We usually spend out time reading to our buddies, but last week we decided to spice it up a bit.  We decided to do some writing with our buddies.  We created some really cute Christmas stories!  Check out the image gallery below to see us hard at work.

Alexis was kind enough to bring in her pottery maker and demonstrate for the class.  Each student got the chance to give it a try and see how it feels to work with real clay.  Check out the pictures below!

The students got a chance to work with clay last week.  They were learning about how real clay is used to make many different items that we use everyday.  They did a great job with their own creations!  Check out the image gallery below!

The students conducted an experiment last week to see how water affects different types of soil.  It was a little messy, but they learned which soil holds water the best.  Check out the pictures in the image gallery down below to the right!

The students created soil heads using pantyhose, cotton balls, and soil.  We are hoping that the heads have grown some grass when we return from the long weekend!

Mrs.Legresley is teaching a unit on soil, so the students did some experimenting with soil today. Check out our pictues in the image gallery below.
