We took advantage of the beautiful November weather and went outside for some Math fun today.  We raced to numbers around the field and filled the playground with chalk numbers.

We are almost through the entire alphabet! Wow! I am really proud of the progress everyone has made learning their letters and sounds.  Show your parents what you know and sing the "Do You Know Your Alphabet" song with them.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RafnYeg2lIQ   This week we will be working on the letters q and r (queeny quail and robbie rabbit).  Qq sounds like /kw/ and can be found in the words queen, quiet, quick, question and quilt.  Notice anything special about those words????? The letters q and u stick together like glue! They are Best Friends!!  The letter r can be found in words like rabbit, rotten, red, ready, really and rooster.  It is a fun sound to make.  Can you think of some other words with these sounds?   Our sight words this week will be: it and me.  We will be working on using these words in our writing!   We will be starting some new centers this week.  If the weather is nice, we may  go outside for some Math!!   There is no school on Friday so homework is due on Thursday.    Report cards go home on Monday.  Parents, please sign and return the envelope. Thanks!  Parent Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday evening and Friday morning.  Appointment times will be in the report card envelopes.

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend, especially the beautiful weather we had! It was a great weekend to play outside!   This week, we will be working on the letters o and p.  "Oo" is a hard working vowel and makes two sounds.  It can make the /o/ sound that's found in words like octopus, Ollie, dog, log, and long.  It can also say it's own name like it does in open, Olivia, November and ocean.   The /p/ sound can be found in words like penguin, pen, pepper, pop and push. It's fun to make the /p/ sound and make your lips pop!  Look around for more words with the letters o and p in them!   Keep practicing the sounds and printing the letters that we've covered so far (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m and n).   Our sight words this week will be: "go" and "am".  Keep practicing your sight word cards! Tell your parents how to spell the words: the, a, and, like, to and is!   In Math, we are going to keep counting and making sets to 5. We are also going to keep printing the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.   Your poetry books will be going home this week. Surprise your parents by reading the Monster and Little Poppy poems!   We are going to talk about ways to react when things don't go our way this week.  What can we do when someone or something makes us angry?   Friday is school spirit day.  Show your love for Gretna Green by wearing green and gold!
