Brr!! It's cold outside! Make sure you come to school dressed warmly this week!  It is too cold to skate on our outdoor rink but hopefully, we'll get out next week.   This week we will be reviewing the sounds for all letters of the alphabet.  We will be using these sounds to help us read and write!   Our sight words this week are: my, are.  See if you can spell them at home and use them in a sentence.  For example: My dog's name is Fletcher.  or  We are in Kindergarten.  Keep reviewing your sight word cards.  These words are important to know!   In Math, we are continuing to work on 3D shapes.  What shapes can you name?   We are learning about our 5 Senses.  Try and name all 5!   Have a super week in Kindergarten!

We have a new student in our class. Welcome to Gretna Green, Kya!   This week, we will be reviewing all our Zoophonics sounds and signals.  Keep practicing these at home.  Parents, make up some nonsense words and see if your child can sound them out! Use words like: suv, nip, sen and vov.  You can also say a word and have your child tell you the sounds in the word. For example, if you say dog, your child will say /d/  /o/   /g/.   Encourage your child to write at home.  Let them help prepare grocery lists or write notes to family members.  Encourage your child to stretch out the words and put down all the sounds they hear.    In Math, we are working on shapes.  Look around and see how many shapes you can find!   Show and Tell will be on Friday.  Check the schedule to see if it's your turn. During recess on Friday, students will be participating in a crazy sock hop!  Wear some crazy socks to school that day!

Welcome back! It was nice to see all your smiling faces today! It sounds like everyone had a wonderful holiday.   This is a short week, so there will be no homework.  Homework calendars for January will be sent home on Monday.  Keep working on your sight words and letter sounds.   We started a new unit in Math today on Shape and Space.  We will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes, sorting and measuring.   How many different shapes can you spot at home?   We are learning about our 5 senses.  How many can you remember?   Our skating rink is up and running.  We will be booking a day in the next few weeks to test it out.  Parents are welcome to join us!!!! All students must have skates and a helmet to go on the ice!  If you don't have any, let me know and I'll see if I can track some down. I will send  a note home letting you know when we will be going.   Have a super week!

The countdown to Christmas is on! Santa will be here before we know it!   This week, we will be working on the letters Yy and Zz.  Show your parents what yancy yak and zeke zebra say and do.  Yy is found in words like yarn, yellow, yes and yipee!  When we print a lowercase y, it hangs below the line.  Zz is found in zebra, zap, zipper and quiz.  What other words have these letters?    We are finishing the alphabet this week but will continue to work on our letters and review their sounds in January.   There will be no show and tell this week.   There is no homework this week.  Keep reading and reviewing your sight words!   Our Christmas concerts will be on Wednesday at 10:00 and 12:30.  The snow date is Thursday.   This is Miss Case's last week with us! Hopefully, she will come back and visit in the New Year! Congratulations on finishing your teaching degree, Miss Case!   This is going to be an exciting week in Kindergarten! We have lots of Christmas themed Math and Language Arts activities to do!
