Here are some things happening this week at Gretna Green:

*  In Literacy, we will be working on the letter I i.  This interesting letter is a very hard working letter because it makes two sounds; our short /i/ sound as in Inny Inchworm and a long i sound that says its own name.  Some words that begin with the short /i/ are infant, insect, itch, index, and Isabellle.  Some words that begin with the long i sound are ice, Ireland, island, idea, and iron.  Show and Tell will be on Friday so have fun hunting for something that begins with the letter I i.

*  In Math, we are working on numbers 0 to 5.  When you are home, show Mom or Dad, Grammy or Grampy how you can count to 5 forwards and then backwards.

*  Congratulations to our class for being October's Class of the Month!  Way to go boys and girls!

*In Math, we are working on more, fewer, and as many as and numbers from 0 – 5.  Practice counting to 5 forwards and backwards, starting at different points.

On Monday, we are going to write a spooky story with our reading buddies and decorate a pumpkin.

On Tuesday, it’s scary hair day.

On Wednesday, Home & School will be giving everyone free popcorn.

On Thursday, it’s black and orange day.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you enjoyed for 5 days off.  Here are a few things happening this week in and around our classroom and school:

*  In Literacy, we will be working on the letters E & F.  So many things begin with these letters, such as, elephant, egg, Easter, envelope, eye, fish, frog, french fries, funny, and Friday.  The letter E e is a hard working vowel because it makes 2 sounds.  We will start "Show and Tell" this Friday.  For this, each child can bring in something that begins with the letter E or something that begins with the letter F.  Have fun hunting!

*  In Math, we will be finishing up Patterns this week.  The boys and girls are having a great time learning about and building patterns.

*  It's Fire Prevention Month and we will be having an assembly in the gym on Thursday.

*  Our School Fundraiser will come to an end on Friday.  Please send in any orders you may have by Friday.

Welcome to Kindergarten!  I am very excited to start a brand new year at Gretna Green and I am also very excited that you are all in my class.  We will learn so many new and exciting things!

Here are a few reminders for the first week of school:

*There will be no breakfast program or cafeteria services for the first week of school.  These will hopefully be up and running during the second week.

*School supply money ($50) is due the first week.  This will cover all school supplies for the whole year.

*New this year is student pick up at the end of the day. Parents/Guardians that are picking up their child(ren) will wait in the office until their child(ren) is/are dismissed.  We hope this will reduced the congestion in the hallways after school.  Thank you for your support and understanding.
