Spelling:  This weeks words are : before, because, you, your.  This will be the last week for spelling this year.    Writing:  Students continue to work on improving their sentence fluency.  Students are learning that sentences need to make sense, be complete, start with a capital and end with a proper punctuation mark.

Spelling:  Our words this week will be: blind, find, kind, mind, * wind.  (Inny Inchworm makes many different sounds in words.  That is why he is considered one of the hardest workers. Writing:  Students will work on improving their sentence fluency. Book Orders:  Due Friday May 14th.  Go for 42 starts this week!  More information will be sent home with your child this week.   Have a terrific week!

Spelling:  This weeks spelling words are:  they, old, mold, cold, fold, hold, gold.  Spellathon:  Great job Grade one!  You did an awesome job with your spelling words.  Please remember to return you Spellaton pledges by Monday April 26.  Writing:  Students will continue to look at word choice in their writing.  Students have been looking at ways to bring in their senses to make their writing stronger.  This week we will be focusing on using better word choices for good and said.

Spelling:  This is our last week to study our Spellathon words.  Students will be tested on Friday and pledge money should be in by Monday, April 26.  Thank you for all your support and good luck class!  Writing:  Keep an ear out for you children's New Perspective on Spring writing.  We will be recording some of them in the upcoming days. Spelling:  We are having our annual spell-a-thon, starting this week.  For the next two weeks, students will be asked to study these spelling words. Writing: We will be looking at Word Choice in our writing this week.   Our Favorite Subject:  Students worked together to write and sing about their favorite subjects in school.  Take a minute to listen to their wonderful songs!  Have a great week and enjoy the beautiful weather!

**There will be no homework this week, due to the short week! Students are asked to return their signed report card envelopes.  Parents can keep their childs report card. I hope you all had a great Easter holiday with your family!  It is great to see the beautiful weather coming so soon. Have a great week!

SPELLING:  There will be no spelling test this week or next because of the short week. WRITING:  Students will be working on Easter Stories this week.     YARD SALE:  The Grade 5's will be putting on a yard sale on Wednesday, March 31st.  Everything is a dollar or less.  Proceeds will be going towards their year end trip to Magic Mountain.  On Thursday April 1st, there will be an Easter egg hunter for all students.  Students are asked to wear their Easter colors on that day!

SPELLING:  This weeks spelling words are:  bet, jet, met, pet, set, wet.  Students are doing very well with their Zoo Phonics signals.  Last weeks spelling tests were 100% for the entire class!  Way to go, Grade One! SCIENCE FAIR:  Students have been working hard on their projects and learning about the scientific process.  We welcome parents and relatives to come in and view their projects on Tuesday, March 16 from 1:30 to 2:00. SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:  Students will be going to view books on Monday and returning on Tuesday to purchase from their wishlist.  Please rememeber to fill out your name on the back of the Scholastic flyer (that was sent home) and return it for a chance to win $25.00 worth of books.  Good Luck!

SPELLING:  We are introducing a new program called Zoo-phonics to our grade one students.  This approach allows students to use both body signals and phonetic sounds to help them remember their spelling.  This weeks spelling words are: dad, fad, lad, mad, sad, glad.  There will now be a weekly sheet for spelling in your child's homework.  We ask that your child practice using their body signals as they write out each word.  March's spelling words can be found under the Documents fold.   Note:  There is a great website to help your child with their spelling called SpellingCity.com.  This can be found under the Web Links.   WRITING:  We will continue working on "good leads" and introduce ways in which to end their stories.

In the spirit of Student Appreciation Week there will be no homework: Tuesday - Grade one students are to wear red for an Olympic Ring picture with the school. Wednesday - Wear your favorite sports uniform or shirt Thursday - Green and Gold Olympic Day, dress in green and gold to show your Olympic spirit. Friday - PJ Day!   Spelling:  There will be no spelling test this week! Writing:  We will continue working on our Organization Trait.  This week we will be focusing on strong leads (good beginnings) and ways to end your stories.    THANK YOU FOR ALL THE TREATS AND STICKERS LAST WEEK! IT WAS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY MARCH BREAK!!

Spelling:  This weeks spelling words are:  fight, right, lights, bright, night.  These are a little tricky because the gh sound is silent.  Writing:  We will continue to work on organizing our writing this month.  Students are learning to sequence their writing by using transition words.  (FIRST, THEN, NEXT, AFTER, FINALLY)   Students will be skating on Tuesday February 16th from 9:40 to 10:10

Our new unit of study this month is MEASURMENT.  During the new few weeks our class will be learning how to :     * Make Comparisons between objects(longer, taller) *Order lengths of objects(shortest to longest) *Compare the areas of objects by covering them with different materials. *Practise the language of measurement using words such as longer/shorter, as tall asmore/less, heavier/lighter.           *Compare the capacities of containers by filling them with water and other materials. *Compare the masses of objects using simple scales and balances.
