Homework:  Please continue to read each night.  Books will be sent home Monday and returned on Friday.  Show and Tell:  Students can bring in something to show the class on Friday. Math:  We are finsihing the year with geometry.  Students are learning about both 2D and 3D shapes and their attributes. Volunteers:  June 19 is our K-2 Fun Day.  If you have some time to spare, it would be greatly appreciated.  Please let the office know in advance so we can schedule you a time.  Thanks so much!

Homework: There will be no homework of the month of June, only reading.  A note has gone home explaining this. Show and Tell:  Students can bring a show and tell on Friday June 8 and Friday June 15.  Teddy Bear Picnic:  Our teddy bear pinic will be on Thursday, June 7.  Students are asked to bring in their favorite teddy bear for that day. Library:  We will not longer be taking our library books.  Math:  Students completed their united on Addition and Subtraction to 20.  They had their assessment on Tuesday, June 5.  We will be finishing the year with Geometry.  We are looking for volunteers for our K-2 Fun Day!  This will be held on Tuesday, June 19.    Have a great week!

Spelling:  Students are looking at the "nk" and "ng" word family this week.   ng  - rang, sang, bring, sing, long nk  - drank, thank, drink, pink, think   Math:  Please continue to review your double facts at home.  We are continuing to review and recognize  related facts.  We are also learning how to create addition and subtraction stories.   Field Trip:  Students will be going to the Shippagan Aquarium on Wednesday, June 6.  Permission slips will be sent home with your child on Wednesday, May 30.    Have a great week!

Literacy:  Students are attempting to use million dollar words (better word choices) in their work.  They are also learning about revision. Spelling:  This weeks word family is "er".  This is another polite partner.  her  stern  fern  term  never  number  summer  winter  silver  river Math:  Students are continuing on their Addition and Subtraction to 20 unit.  This week, students will practice the strategy of counting on and counting back in their homework.  Please continue to practice your double facts every night. Spelling:  This week we are looking at the “ee” word family.  This is again another polite partner. meet, jeep, see, sheep, street, three, tree, weep, green, keep At this point in the year, students should be very familiar with the blends sh, str, tr, gr, Math:  We will be working on the Addition and Subtraction to 20 for the next several weeks.  There is a pink sheet in your child’s homework this week.  Please practice their doubles every night as this will help them to strategize questions like 6 + 7….I know 6 + 6 = 12 so it is only 1 more. Please continue to read every night and ask questions about what your child has read to check for comprehension. Have a great week!

Math:  We will be finishing up our unit on Representing Numbers to 100 this week and starting our unit on Addition and Subtraction to 20.  Our assessment will take place on Wednesday. Homework:  There will be no new homework this week.  Students will only have nightly reading. Math:  I am asking students to bring in a baseball cap, sunglasses and a hoodie.  We will be using these for our math song.  Please have them at school before Wednesday, May 2.   Book Orders: This will be our final order of the year.  I want to say thank you for all your support.  It has certainly helped my classroom library and your children.  Please return your orders by Thursday, May 10. Photos:  Just a reminder to send or email your photos of you planting your black spruce.  These trees were donated by the DNR and we are planning on sending a CD with your child's picture as a way to say thank you.  Have a great week!

Library:  Please remember to return your books so you can check out new ones. Spelling:  We are working on the “ay” family this week.  This is another polite partner.  The “ay” most oftens makes the long “a” sound. clay, day, hay, play, say, spray, sway, tray, saying, says Math: This week we will be working on skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s,  identify numbers to 100 on the 100th chart, and counting by grouping. Have a great week!
I am very proud to announce that our very own grade one students will be on the morning announcements promoting Earth Day.  This will begin on Thursday April 19 and finish up sometime next week.  Please keep a look out for your little actors and actresses.  They did an awesome job!

Book Orders:  Please return them by Thursday, April 19.  Thanks again for your support! Spelling:  This week we are working on the “aw” word family.  This again belongs to the polite partner family.  The “aw” only has one sound and the “w” acts like a vowel. claw, crawl, draw, law, lawn, paw, saw, straw, drawing, sawing Math:  We are continuing with our unit on representing number to 100.  Please check back for some fun websites your child can play at home. Earth Day:  As you may or may not know, Earth Day is celebrated on April 22.  Grade one students from both classes are getting together to help inform other classes of the importance of taking care of the earth.  Please stay tuned as there will be interesting facts and some skits on the morning announcements by our very talented grade one students.  Library:  Remember to return your library books on Monday.

I hope you had a restful easter weekend. Here is this weeks homework and news. Spelling:  We are continuing to review the "ar" work family.  Math:  There is no math homework this week.  We will be finishing our unit on measurement and will be starting the next unit "representing numbers to 100".  Please note there is information about this unit in your child's bear binders. Book Orders:  May's book orders will be sent home with your child on Tuesday.  They are due back on Thursday April, 19.  This will be the second last order for the year.  Thanks again for your orders as they bring books to our classroom.  Have a great week!

Spelling:  This week we are working on the “ar” family.  This again is part of our polite partner’s series of words.  Robby Rabbit makes the hardest workers (vowels) change their sound.  bar, car, jar, tar, card, yard, start, carry, warm (bonus words) Math: Our Measurement unit is soon coming to an end.  We will be looking at capacity and weight this week.  There is no math homework this week. Grade 5 Yard Sale:  Our grade 5 students will be raising money for their end of year trip.  This will take place on Wednesday and everything is a $1.00 or less. Easter Basket:  Students can buy a ticket for .25 each lunch hour for a chance to win a basket full of Easter goodies. Please return your Bear Binders on Thursday. Literacy:  In writing, students are working on the second part of their procedural writing “The Body”.  In this part, students will use the transition words; First, Next, Then, After that, Finally.  Using these words, help to keep students writing organized and clear.  Spelling:  We are continuing to review the concept of “Polite Partners”.  Polite Partners are when 2 letters come together and the first letter makes the sound (last week’s spelling concept), or when 2 letters come together and the second letter makes the sound, or when 2 letters come together and make a completely different sound. all, ball, call, fall, small, stall, tall, wall (these make the “awl” sound). shall (makes the “ al” sound). Math:  We are continuing to work on our “measurement unit”.  Students will not have homework this week in math.  You and Your World:  Students are continuing to work on their habitat projects.  We are hoping to complete these in the next week so we can present them to other grades and possibly parents.
