On Wednesday, January 27, Gretna Green Elementary School celebrated Family Literacy Day. Reporters, Jackson and Alicia, report on the special events that took place at Gretna Green to celebrate the special day. Tanner was on Camera and Lauren in 3G was the Director. Lauren in 5C was the grade five mentor for this group.

On Wednesday, January 20, 2009 Olympic athlete, Andrew Russell, came to visit the students at Gretna Green Elementary. Mr. Russell is a summer Olympian from Nova Scotia. He is a canoeist. Mr. Russell was also a torch bearer this year when the Olympic torch came to Nova Scotia. He brought his Olympic Torch with him to show students. The excitement in the gymnasium grew as Mr. Russell passed around the torch, his medal and his Olympic Ring. This visit was made possible through RBC. The GG Times crew participated in a technology inservice presented by technology mentor, Mr. Craig Duplessie. The students were provided with an array of techniques, skills and tips on how they can improve their GG Times videos. The grade two to five students had an awesome day and look forward to applying many of the strategies they learned from the workshop.

Gretna Green Elementary hosted Ms. Deena Zenyk, who is the lead K-12 Education Specialist from SMART's head office in Calgary. She spent the morning visiting classes and checking out our morning announcements. It was a real treat to have Ms. Zenyk visiting our class and we hope she returns sometime soon!
