Wow!  Another school year has begun.  We are all happy to be back at school and to be in Grade 2!  All of us are working really hard and having a lot of fun.             We have been learning about patterns in Math.  Patterns can grow and repeat.  They can also be made with many different things like: shapes, colours and numbers.  When we are finished with patterns, we are going to work on numbers all the way to 100!             This month, we are learning all about safety.  We know that it is very important to keep ourselves safe.  Today we had a lock down practice.  Everyone did very well.  We have also learned about stranger safety and bus safety.             There is a lot to do this year.  We are going to be very busy but we know that we are going to have a great year!                                                                                                                                  by 2M (Shared Writing)

We have been lucky enough to have a Roots of Empathy baby in our classroom this year.  His name is Nathaniel and his   parent’s names are Margaret and Graeme. It is very interesting learning about the stages that babies go through.  We have watched Nathaniel learn to roll over, crawl, stand up and walk.  He is a very curious baby and is always checking out new things in the classroom. During his last visit,  Nathaniel rearranged our classroom by pushing the chairs around!   One time, Nathaniel sat on Paige and Katie’s laps.  Lauren thought he was a king!  We all had a great laugh!  Nathaniel loves to try new things.  He tried plums for the first time and loved them!  He is eating a lot of different kinds of food now. We celebrated Nathaniel’s first birthday in May.  We made him a card and a book of nursery rhymes.  He got a new toy and tried cake for the first time.  There was cake EVERYWHERE!  We think that Roots of Empathy is a fantastic program.                                                                                      by Grade 2 Matheson  (Shared Writing)

Our Grade 5 Writing Buddies have been helping us write our own Mysteries!  They are helping us develop characters, plots and settings by using the 5 W’s and are showing us how to write strong leads.  We are looking forward to finishing our stories and sharing them with our classsmates!
