Short a Sound

This week we will be working on the short a sound. The spelling words this week focus on the short a sound and your child will be doing short a sound class activities this week. You can have your child try to find words in their reading log books that have the short a sound. Student Message

Welcome to grade one! We are happy students. We really love school and we do lots of fun things. In school we like gym, math, recess, reading to self, read to someone, math centres, reading with our grade four buddies and the Writer’s Workshop. Our classroom is special because we have Bud. Bud is a dog that loves to write us letters and go on adventures. We write him letters and he writes us back. We will write more about Bud’s adventures soon. WE LOVE LEARNING! What is a ten frame?

A ten frame is a really neat organizer that helps students with recognizing numbers, building numbers, addition and subtraction. This can be made at home to help your child with math. The first row must be filled in first before you move to the second row. When removing the counters you must start on the second row on the right and work your way to the left. *Check out the class Links on the right hand side of this page for online games using the ten frame.
