    The Gretna Green Science Fair was a big hit in my class.  The students worked with a partner and decided on what they wanted to test using the scientific process.  Materials were gathered and students worked hard on their projects at school.  They completed all the steps in the scientific process including their hypothesis, list of materials needed, methods, results and their conclusion.  The students were excited to show and explain their projects to the rest of the students at Gretna Green and to the judges.  Some of the projects included, testing different styles of paper airplanes to see which one would go further and figuring out if an ice cube in water would melt faster than an ice cube not in water.  The projects were all well done.

~~~~Castle Building Contest~~~~ On May 5th and May 7th one of our math centers was a Castle Building Contest.  We are exploring Geometry in math class and the Castle Building Contest let us use our math skills when working with the attribute blocks.  In our groups we had to work as a team to build the castle.  It was an excellent time!  Each group had a picture taken with their castle so that the rest of the school could vote on the best castle between Mrs. Moody’s class and Miss O’Reilly’s class.  On Monday, May 11 during the live morning announcements Group 7 found out that they won.  Molly, Matthew, Amanda and Sarah were in Group 7 and received a certificate from Mrs. Simmons.  The certificate said “Queen of the Castle” for the girls and “King of the Castle” for the boys.  All 8 groups had a terrific time working on their castles.
