In French Language Arts, we continue to work on our Social Studies unit: My province. Students will review the cities in New Brunswick. We will also discuss ethnic groups and natural resources in NB.  Students completed a procedural writing piece and a St. Patrick’s narrative piece. We are now moving on to a  descriptive piece about their March Break activities. We continue to do the Daily 5 every day in order to improve their reading and writing skills. In Math, we are working on estimation and addition strategies and adding two and three digit numbers.  We are also learning to subtract by using base ten blocks.  We will be moving on to a Mesurement unit next week. Just a reminder that report cards go out Monday! I’m so proud of all of my students! I look forward to meeting with you this week! Have a great week!

Dear Home & School Executive and Members, Thank you for all the contributions and efforts you put forth in support of Staff Appreciation week. Last week was such a treat and it made us feel very appreciated!  We are so lucky to work at Gretna Green Elementary School where the children and their families are amazing! You are the best!

In Lang. Arts, we continue to work on our Health unit and have begun discussing how to take care of ourselves by eating well, being clean, exercising and resting. We will also learn Valentine Vocabulary. These new words will help the students during oral, writing and reading activities! We will also be working on procedural writing. We will follow a recipe on Valentine's day and make something yummy to eat! Next week, students will independently write a procedural text by writing their own tasty recipe! In Math, we continue to use mental math strategies: doubles, doubles + 1, making 10 and adding 10s. We are also learning to use different estimating strategies to add two digit numbers.

In French Language Arts, we have commenced a health unit. We are looking at the different food groups and what types of food go in each group. We are talking about balanced meals and students will draw a balanced meal and present it to the class. In Math, we keep reviewing our numbers from 0-1000. This week students have reviewed basic math facts and some mental math strategies (doubles, near doubles, making ten). We continue to work on word problems and addition /subtraction with 2 and 3 digit numbers.
