We have a busy week ahead of us! Students will continue to describe their families and we will work on Halloween vocabulary/activities. A video about  our "Animaux de compagnie" (Our Pets) will be uploaded to our website tomorrow. They did an awesome job writing about their pets and presenting them!  We will be writing a class book on "L'Halloween" tomorow. We can't wait to spook you!In Math, we will work on numbers 0-90 and we will complete our unit on Patterns by the end of the week.  Students will have a test on Patterns next week.  A practice sheet on Patterns will be sent home next week in order to help students prepare  for the test. Bonne semaine les amis! Mme Lockerbie

You probably heard your child talking about “The Daily Five.”  I will fill you in on what The Daily Five is all about. The Daily Five is a way of structuring the reading block so every student is independently engaged in meaningful literacy tasks. These research based tasks are ones that will have the biggest impact on student reading and writing achievement, as well as help foster children who love to read and write. Students receive explicit whole group instruction and then are given independent practice time to read and write independently while I provide focused, intense instruction to individuals and small groups of students. This is done on a daily basis.     When it is up and running smoothly, students will be engaged in the Daily Five, which are comprised of:  Read to Self Work on Writing Read to Someone Listen to Reading Word Work    So far, we are doing the Daily 3. Read to Self  Read to Someone Listen to ReadingMost often, I will do Guided Reading sessions with small groups of students during this time.  I  will spend time learning about your child’s strengths and greatest needs as a reader in order to best plan for each student’s instruction.  From now on, students will be bringing home a book read in class during a Guided Reading session (leveled book). Please ask your child to read the book 3 times each night. This will help with fluency and comprehension.
