Posted: November 26, 2012
Only 4 more weeks until Christmas vacation. Where has the time gone! With that being said, the cold weather has snuck up on us. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriatly for the weather. I see alot of red faces rolling in from recess.
This week we will focus on what our favorite passe times are. We will discuss what we like to do, where and with whom. We will also focus our reading and cursive writing on the letter Tt. We will also continue to work on our scripts for our December video. My goal is to have the scripts finished by Friday so that we can begin to rehearse next Monday.
In Math, we will continue to focus on patters, I am attaching a link entitled "National Library of Virtual Manupulatives" to my web links section. Feel free to browse the site and have you child complete any section on patterns. There are a few for their enjoyment.
Notes for the week:
- Montre et Renconte a.k.a Show n' Tell: Melissa.B (mardi), Megan.B (mercredi), Elizabeth Cooper (jeudi) et Aliya.D (vendredi)
- Please continue reading at home. Remind your child to record on their sheets what they have read. I still see a few doing this in the morning at school.

This short week's theme will be about what makes us unique. Next week, we will begin discussing what our favorite passe times are. Our focus will be the letter Mm. You will also notice on the sheet that they will practice at home this week (found in reading bag) that there is a new list of current words to practice as well. Cursive writing binders will be sent home tomorrow once we have had a chance to practice first in class.
We are now reading C levels books in class. Books sent home this week are the same level as well. Please ensure that your child reads at home and write's down their book in their reading log sheet. I still see some students doing this in the morning, and it confuses them as well as myself as we exchange books.
Madame France will also continue to record students' reading. She is in the process of recording student's reading level B books. Once complete, I will post teh audio files on my teacher page. It is expected that students be reading level C-D books by teh end of December. We are well on our way.
In math, we will be learning new terms regarding patterns a.k.a les régularités. We will continue to work in our activity binders, play games on the Alberta Learn website, and complete textbook work. Tomorrow, students will be creating various patterns using, blocks, dice, base 10 units, etc. They will have to then explain their partners to a partner and then the class.
Remember there is no school Friday. Report cards went home today. Parents please sign and return the envelope. Thanks! Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday evening and Friday morning. Appointment times will be in the report card envelope.
Our book fair visits will be Tuesday at 12:30 and Thursday at 9:15. Students can browse and make orders on Tuesday and purchase their books on Thursday.
Popcorn on Wednesday, library on Thursday. Friday we will be reading en Français with Madame Dickson’s class in the morning, and finally in the afternoon with our Kindergarten friends.

This past week, we focus on the sound Rr. Our cursive writing folder was also sent home to practice writing Rr in cursive. We also practiced level C books for next week's readings. Please ensure you child continues to read each night. It's very important for theitr vocabulary!
Our theme in French class focused on "Birthdays." Your son/daughter is now capable of sayhing "Ma fête est le ___________." Also, they are now able to say "Je suis né-e en 2003 or 2004." Bravo! Next week we will focus on what makes us "unique."
In math, we began our unit of patterns a.k.a Les régularités. Again, they have a solid background from previous years. Our challenge now, is to learn the vocabulary and apply it to our daily math activities.
We visited the library on Thursday, and read to our buddies in Kindergarden this afternoon.
Next Tues and Thurs, we will be visiting to school's book fair. Tuesday we will browse and take orders. If you wish to purchase any books, your child can do so on Thursday.
Remember next Thursday evening/Friday morning is parent-teacher interviews. Report cards will go home Monday. If you have not yet requested an interview, please do so and we can go from there.
December Scholastic orders will also be sent on December 7th.
Have a great weekend! Cheers.
