We have been very busy in Kindergarten.  Everyone has been working very hard learning to read. I am very pleased with the great progress everyone has made learning their letters, sounds and sight words.  Keep up the great work!  In writing, we are working on writing sentences independently by using sight words, the word wall and by stretching out words for sounds.  Remember to add details, the more toppings on the pizza, the better it tastes! In Math, we continue to work on numbers to 10.  Some concepts we are currently covering include number order (before/after), counting forward and back from various starting points and showing numbers in 2 sets (5 and 3 make 8).

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great break. I'm excited to hear all about it tomorrow! There will be no homework this week. January homework calendars will be sent home next week. Keep practicing your sight words! It's important that you can read these words quickly and easily. We are at the letters Uu and Vv. What words do you know that have these letters in them? In Math, we will continue to work on numbers to 10. Practice counting objects at home and see how many different ways you can show the numbers (4 and 4 make 8 or 5 and 5 make 10). We are going to learn about our 5 senses this month.

We are up to letters Qq and Rr!! Please keep practicing all the letters and sounds at home!  Have your child look for words that begin/end with these letters.  Practice printing all the letters. New sight words will be sent home this week.  It is important to practice identifying sight words on a regular basis as this is an important early reading skill.  Have your child use their sight words to practice writing sentences.  The paper sight word books that get sent home are ones that your child is able to read.  Have them read it to as many people as possible and as often as they can!  This will help build confidence and excitement for reading! In Math, we are working on the concepts of more than, fewer than and the same as.  Have your child count and finds sets of objects that are more than a given number or fewer than.  Our Christmas show will take place on Wednesday.  There are two identical shows (10:00 and 12:30).  For the show, the drama club will be presenting a play and each grade will sing a song during the play.  Both recesses will be inside since the children will be dressed up. Library is on Thursday.   Have a great week!

We have started Guided Reading.  When your child brings home a guided reading book, have them read the book to you.  Encourage them to point to the words as they read, look at the letters in the words and use the picture cues.  They have read the book at school and will be excited to show you how well they can read! Please send the book back to school in the baggie with the finger pointer.  Thanks!!
