Welcome back to another busy week in Kindergarten!  This week we are going to talk about silent/magic e! The letter e sometimes does crazy things when it's at the end of words!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnanlcyRuuIIn Math, we are working on the numbers 9 and 10.  How many ways can you show these numbers? On Wednesday, the Grade 5's are having a yard sale to raise money for their field trip.  There are always lots of cool things to buy! Parents, if you are sending money please put it in a baggie with your child's name on it. Thanks!   On Thursday, we will be travelling to James M Hill to watch a black light show put on by St. Andrew's Elementary.  We will be leaving the school at 9:30 and returning at 11:30.  Eat a big breakfast because we will be having a very late recess!  If you haven't already brought your toonie in for the show please bring it before Thursday. Thanks! Have a great week!

There are only 3 school days this week so there will be no homework.  Use the time to play some of the fun Math and Language Arts games we've played at school.  You can find the links under "weblinks".  May homework calendars will be sent home next week.   Monday is the final day for the spell-a-thon.  We will be having a prize assembly on Wednesday. Our playground is very wet.  Remember to wear splash pants and rubber boots!   Have a great week!

This week we are working on the "at" and "an" word families.  If you know how to spell at, you can spell cat, hat, bat and sat! If you know how to spell an, you can spell ran, fan and tan!  What other words can you find that are part of these families?  Follow the link to sing the word family song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z753SITeq0    Keep practicing your sight words and try writing a story at home. Remember to use finger spaces!     In Math, we are working on the number 8.  Practice printing 8's at home.  What number comes before 8?  What number comes after 8?  We can make sets to show the number 8.  For example, 4 apples and 4 oranges make 8 pieces of fruit!  5 happy faces and 3 crazy faces make 8!  Try drawing some examples at home.      Wednesday is Earth Day!  We have learned about recycling and ways to keep our Earth healthy.  Pick up some litter or practice recycling this week!       Our playground is very wet and we still have snow so make sure you have skipants or splash pants and boots!! It would be a good idea to put some extra socks in your bookbag!   Have a great week!!

This week we will be learning that when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking! For example in the word meat you hear the /e/ sound.  What do you hear in the word soap?  Here's  a link to a song we use in class.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fb3Pdt8kxg   What words can you find that have 2 vowels in them? Continue to review your sight words and practice your letter sounds.  A fun way to work on sounds is to read nonsense words. We've practiced in class so now you can show your parents at home.  Try reading these:  nov, bip, zuk, rup, mif, faj, dol. Write a story with your parents at home.  Show them how well you can write sight words and stretch out harder words! They will be so proud! Remember to use finger spaces!!!   In Math, we are working on the numbers 6 and 7.  How many ways can you show these numbers? What makes 7?  Practice printing and drawing sets at home. We will continue to work on our recycling projects this week. There is no school on Friday or Monday for Easter weekend.  Have a wonderful Easter with your family and friends!! Fingers crossed for some warm spring weather!

I attached a video in weblinks that we used in class.  March sight words have wh, sh and th.  What other words can you find that have these sounds? We are talking about the 3R's in You and Your World.  They are Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  This week, we will learn what kinds of things we can recycle and we will get in small groups with Mrs. O'Toole's class to begin working on our projects.  If you have any pictures of yourself recycling send them to me! Library is Thursday.  There is no school Friday due to parent teacher. Have a great week and hope for sunshine!!!

This week we will continue to review vowels and their 2 sounds (a, e, i, o, u and sometimes y).  How many words can you think of where the letter a says it's own name? (ex. ape, crate)  Continue reviewing your sight words and remember to read every night! In Math, we are learning about nonstandard units of measurement.  For example, we can measure how long a book is using linking cubes.  Try measuring at home.   The 100th Day of School is coming up! As of today, it will be on Tuesday, February 24th!! We have lots of fun activities planned for the day.  I am excited to see the collections and/or projects that you bring in.  If you need some ideas, there are videos and image galleries for previous years on this page as well as, Mrs. O'Toole's class site. Have a great week!
