Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you enjoyed your looooong weekend and are ready for another busy week.  On Tuesday, we will Skype with our Dallas pen pals and we will examine our tulip bulbs.  What do you think they'll look like?  If the weather is nice, we will plant our bulbs on Wednesday.  Our spelling test will be on Thursday this week.  Friday, we will be travelling to Croft for the Heritage Fair.  Remember to bring a bag lunch for the trip!

We have finished our Math unit on patterns and have moved on to learning about numbers to 100.  This unit will focus on deepening your child’s understanding of number relationships, counting, and place value.  We will be learning how to: Read numbers to 100 in symbols and in words; Build numbers to 100 with concrete materials; Estimate the number of objects in groups to 100; Count forward and backward using different tools, such as objects, a number line, a 100-chart, and coins; Show numbers to 100 as tens and ones using a variety of materials; and Compare and order numbers to 100.

This is going to be a short but busy week!  There is no school on Thursday or Friday due to Curriculum Days for teachers.  Enjoy your long weekend!   There will be no homework this week other than reading.   Please send back permission slips for the Croft Heritage Fair field trip as soon as possible.   We will Skype with our Dallas pen pals for the first time on Tuesday.  We will share our weather with them and talk about what we've been doing in school. Our letters will be mailed this week.   This is fire prevention week.  There will be a presentation made by local firefighters on Tuesday morning.

Drew and Cameron were recognized at today's Student Showcase Assembly for using descriptive words and detail in their writing. Keep up the great work!   Cameron's Story:   When I was three I got some chocolate but I lost it. It was surprisingly good.  It was delicious creamy milk chocolate with yummy carmel goodness.  MMMMMMM.... YUMMY! I want that chocolate again.   Drew's Lost Ad: If you see a big golden retriever please call 555-8888.  He's 3 years old. He's fluffy and he has saggy ears.  He drools a lot.  He will knock you over and lay on your stomach and lick you on the face.  He can run faster than a race car! If you find him be careful, he can pull you over. Cause once I had him on his leash and he dragged me all around the house 3 to 5 times.  It really hurt me when he went on the rocks.  He has a long, long tongue.  When he jumps on me he's over my head. He could touch a grownup's hand up high when he jumps. Please find him, he's another LOST dog!

Our video conference with our Dallas pen pals will take place tomorrow.  We will finish our letters and video this week.       Daily 5:  We will continue to work on ways to Read to Someone and on adding new strategies to our CAFE board.  Remember to check for understanding when reading with your partners!     The writing trait we are working on this month is Ideas.  We know that good writing has a main idea and lots of juicy details!  Keep working on spicing up your stories.         We are finishing up Unit 1 on Patterns this week.  Next week we will start working with numbers to 100.
