2M is participating in the Tomatosphere project with the Canadian Space Agency.  We planted our seeds on Thrusday.   There were two packages of Heinz tomato seeds. One package of seeds is the control group. The second set of seeds has been exposed to a flight from Earth to the International Space Station, storage at the ISS, and a return flight on a USA shuttle. The seeds were taken to the ISS by CSA astronaut, Julie Payette, and the seeds remained on board for approximately two months.  Wow!  We planted both packages and are keeping track of which seeds grow first.  We won't know which package has been in space until the end of the project!  Check back to find out our results! http://www.tomatosphere.org/

Spring is on it's way and we are very excited because our tulips have emerged!  Along with other students across the Northern Hemisphere we are tracking the growth of tulips as the seasons change from winter to spring.  Our friends in Dallas have told us that their tulips are already in bloom.  Check out the Journey North Website to see what's happening in other test gardens. http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tulip/

Wow! The 100th day of school is on Monday, February 22nd!!  We will be celebrating the 100th day by participating in many exciting activities throughout the day.  For homework, each student is asked to bring in a collection of 100 items or something created with 100 objects.  Some examples include: necklaces made from 100 cheerios or beads, structures made from 100 popsicle sticks, or pictures made from 100 stickers.  Be creative and have fun!  We can’t wait to see your completed projects!
