The boys and girls in 2M did a fantastic job with their food creatures!  I was very impressed with the creative choices they made! They had fun writing about their creatures and enjoyed sharing them with the other classes.  They were able to show their pen pals in Dallas their characters during our weekly Skype.  Please take a moment to watch our video and listen to our stories.

We had a special visitor in our class last Wednesday.  Ms. Sands is a grade 2 teacher at St. John's Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas.  She brought us all kinds of gifts from our pen pals including pencils, stickers, artwork and yummy Texas taffy!  We enjoyed asking Ms. Sands questions about her school and about Dallas.  She even showed us what our pen pals do for tornado drills! Read below to find out what Patrick and Ben thought about the visit.      Ms. Sands came on Wednesday from Dallas, Texas, in the USA.  She is very nice.  Me and Kaity gave her a tour of our school.  She gave our class some stuff.  We are very happy that she came to our school.  We all love Ms. Sands.  She is a good friend and she is welcome to our school when she wants.                                                                  By Patrick   Ms. Sands is very nice.  She came from Dallas, Texas, USA.  Patrick and Kaity took her on a tour of our school. When your child brings home a guided reading book please have him/her read it to you.  Take a moment to ask questions and discuss what they have read.  Please return the book to school the following day.  Thanks!

Please bring your food creature to school on  Wednesday (November 18).  We will fill out a character information sheet and write a descriptive paragraph about your yummy creature.  We will also share our creations with our Dallas pen pals and invite the other classes to come and check out our cool projects!

We finished Halloween Fraidy-Cat.  It was a great book.  Freddy was invited to a Halloween party. He was afraid to go because just looking at monsters gave him nightmares!  His costume was a hammerhead shark.  Everyone thought he looked weird.        At the party, Jessie asked if Freddy wanted to go through the haunted house with her.  Freddy thought it wasn't a bad idea since she was the bravest one in school.  In the last room of the haunted house, Freddy got scared.  He screamed, "Ahhhhh!"             They heard a noise coming from the basement.  Max said he'd go down by himself to check it out but the other kids said Freddy would go.  Max was scared.  Freddy found out that the noise was only a cat!  In the end, Freddy was known not as a baby but as a brave man!                We think you should read this book!                                                     Written by Jadyn and Matthew R

We are reading a chapter book called Halloween Fraidy-Cat.  Chole is having a class Halloween party and everyone is invited!  Freddy is a little nervous because he's a bit afraid of people in costumes!  He doesn't want anyone to know that he's scared.  We can't wait to find out how the party goes!  Ask your child to make a prediction about what is going to happen next.

In grade two, we have pen pals.  They live all the way in Dallas, Texas!  So far, we got to do one video conference to meet our pals.  We also had a Bridgit and had Courtney tell them what the weather was like here.  We have received letters from them.  Now, we are writing them back.  Our class is really looking forward to doing more with them.  Our pen pal names are June and Annie.  The teacher's name is Ms. Manuel.  We are really enjoying having pen pals.  So is Miss Matheson!  It is awesome!!                                                           Written by Isabella and Brooke

In Math, we have started a unit on Numbers to 100.  This unit will focus on deepening your child’s understanding of number relationships, counting, and place value.  We will be learning how to:    • Read numbers to 100 in symbols and in words.  • Build numbers to 100 with concrete materials. • Estimate the number of objects in groups to 100. • Count forward and backward using different tools, such as objects, a number line, a 100-chart, and coins. • Show numbers to 100 as tens and ones using a variety of materials. • Compare and order numbers to 100.

On Tuesday, October 6th we planted our tulip bulbs.  Before we planted them Miss Matheson let us observe the bulbs.  The outside was sort of silky.  The inside was sort of dry and rubbery.  To plant them we had to dig two deep holes.  When we were digging the holes we found lots of worms!  Then we planted the bulbs.  Soon they will grow into tulips in the Spring.                                                                     Written by Sarah and Drew
