What a fabulous weekend!!! I hope you all had a chance to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!    This week we will be working with the th, wh, ch and sh sounds.  These letters work together to make some neat sounds.  We will also see why the letter e is sometimes called "magic e".    In Math, we will explore the numbers 9 and 10.  How many different ways can you make these numbers?  The final homework calendar for Kindergarten will go home on Monday!!  Wow!  Hopefully, we will have a chance to connect with our friends in North Carolina this week and start working on our answers to their questions.  Have a super week!

Monday is Earth Day.  We will be talking about what we can do to keep our planet healthy.   April is Dental Health Month.  We will be doing some activities this week on why it's important to look after our beautiful smiles   The Grade 5 classes are holding a yard sale on Wednesday to raise money for their end of year trip.   Friday is Career Day.  Everyone is encouraged to dress up as what they'd like to be when they grow up.  We will be looking at some different careers throughout the week.   If you are doing a recycling project at home, please bring it in by Friday.   We will be finishing up and presenting our animal projects later this week.   Have a great week in Kindergarten!!!!

 This is a short week for Kindergarten!  There is no school on Wednesday for current Kindergarten students due to the Teddy Bear Picnic for next year's kids!  There is also no school on Friday as it is a Professional development Day for teachers.   Homework is due back on Thursday.  Thursday is also Library day so please bring your books back.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Keep working on making sets to show the numbers 1 to 7.  How many different ways can you make the number 7? We will finish up and present our recycling projects this week. Keep practicing your sight words.  We will finish up our new sight words centers this week that we started last week. Have a super week!!!

 I hope everyone is ready for another great week in Kindergarten!!  Homework calendars for April will be sent home this week.  Please encourage your child to read the two homework books to as many people as possible.  This helps improve fluency.   We are going to finish up our recycling projects and share them this week.  They look great so far! We will be drawing a picture, doing some writing and making a craft to send to Mrs. Ray's  class in North Carolina.    In Math, we  are working on the numbers 6 and 7 this week.  How many different ways can you show these numbers?

I hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful long weekend and spent a lot of time outside! I can't wait to hear all your stories about the Easter Bunny tomorrow!   This is a short week so there will be no homework! April homework calendars will be sent home next week.   There is no school on Friday due to parent teacher metings.   We have been practicing some poems and looking for periods, commas, question marks and exclamation marks in our stories.  See if you can point these out for your parents.  Keep working on your sight words and reading!!   We are working on the numbers 6 to 10 and reviewing the numbers 0 to 5.  Practice printing these at home.  See if you can make sets of these numbers with objects at your house.   We will be Skyping with our friends in North Carolina on Thursday.

There is a lot happening this week at Gretna Green!   The Scholastic Book Fair will be running Monday to Thursday.  Our class will be going on Monday and again on Wednesday.  The fair will be open Thursday evening for family night.  Come and take a peek! There are always lots of great books available!   The end of month assembly will be on Thursday.  I wonder who will be Student and Class of the Month!  We will be submitting our votes this week!   There is no school on Friday so homework is due back on Thursday.   Report cards will be sent home on Thursday.  If you want an appointment time for parent teacher, please send back the green form as soon as possible.   Keep reading!!!   We are going to record our punctuation poems this week.   In Math, we will be starting a new unit on numbers 6 to 10.   We will be participating in many fun Easter centers and activities this week!   We are going to practice a new song to teach our North Carolina friends when we Skype with them again next week.   Have a great week!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Were any of you lucky enough to catch a leprechaun? They are sneaky!   This week, we will continue to practice our punctuation poems and hopefully record them.  Look around and see how many periods, question marks, exclamation marks and commas you can find. They are everywhere!    Keep working on your sight words and letter sounds.  Practice sounding out words whenever you can. Our new words this week are: they, with.   In Math, we will be finishing up our unit on shape and space and starting to work on numbers 6 to 10.   We have finished with the Five Senses and will now be working on healthy environments.  We are starting with the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!   We are going to try and have another Skype this week.   Have a super week in Kindergarten!

We had our first Skype session with our new friends in Raleigh, North Carolina today.  It was really fun! We sang O'Canada and they sang the Star Spangled Banner.  We introduced ourselves and shared what we like about school.  It seems as though we have a lot in common!

Welcome back! I enjoyed hearing all your fabulous stories yesterday. It sounds like everyone had a wonderful March Break!   We are going snowshoeing this afternoon! We will be walking through Storyland Park. I'm sure we will have lots of fun!   On Wednesday, we will be Skyping with our friends in North Carolina! Yipee!   We are reviewing our sight words and letter sounds this week.  We will be practicing using our sounds to figure out new words.   Everyone is doing so well with their reading! I am very proud of you all. Keep reading at home!   In Math, we are working on capacity and mass.  Compare different sizes of containers at home to see which hold more! How can you figure out how heavy objects are?   Have a super week in Kindergarten!

Happy Student appreciation Week!!!!   Monday - Extra Long Recess and Day 1 of Survivor Tuesday - Come in Character Day (dress up as your favourite story book character) and Day 2 of Survivor Wednesday - PJ Day, Free Popcorn and Survivor Finale Thursday - Green and Gold Day Friday - Teachers vs Students Hockey Game   NO HOMEWORK THIS WEEK!!!!   Have a great week, boys and girls!!!!!

I hope you are ready for another funfilled week in Kindergarten!   On Tuesday, we will be participating in 100th day activities with the other K-2 classes.  I was really impressed with the 100th Day projects that you did.  Very creative! Great job, boys and girls!   On Wednesday, we will be connecting with some new penpals in Raleigh, North Carolina!  We will hear them sing the American National Anthem and we will sing O Canada.   We will each get a chance to introduce ourselves and share some of the things we like to do.  How exciting!! The power of technology :)   Thursday is Library day. Don't forget your books!   Friday is  spell-a-thon test day.  Keep practicing your words!  We will review the spell-a-thon words this week as well as last week's words: come, this and that.   Mr. Stewart will be hosting a Bucket Filler Assembly on Friday.  There are lots of bucket fillers in our class! Keep it up :)   The Home and School is sponsoring a "Family Winterlude" on Sunday, February 24th from 1:00 - 3:00.  There will be hot chocolate, hot dogs, snow shoeing, skiing and skating!    
To celebrate the 100th Day of Kindergarten we decided to share our favourites things about school so far!  We have been busy in KM!   Favourite Kindergarten Memories Henry – Playing with Play-Doh and when we waxed our hands at the hospital. Olivia- Counting the 100 days on the chart and seeing the skeleton at the hospital.   Dalilah – Going on the hospital trip. Trent –  When the firemen came. Adam – Getting my picture taken with George on the first day of school, laying the wreathe on Remembrance Day and learning about monster manners. Allison – When Mommy visited me in the cafeteria at lunch and when  Miss Case came to visit and helped us with our centers. Maggie – The day we drew pictures of the school bus. Sawyer – Playing outside. Lauren – Guidance with Mr. Stewart and seeing Miss Case. Catherine –Learning about stopping bullies, when we started zoophonics at Aa and going on the hospital trip. Tayla – Our hospital trip. George – The day we painted trees. Holden – Skating Evan – Skating Meaghan – Counting all the way to 100 and when we started show and tell. Kya – Learning how to hike at Harkins. Hilary - Skating
