Wow! Can't believe it's February already! We have another busy week ahead of us.   We are going to try and go skating on Wednesday, February 6th from 1 - 2.  Hopefully the weather will finally co-operate!   Our sight words this week are: little, went, of.  Practice printing these, spell them for your parents and use them in sentences.    We will be reviewing vowels and their sounds this week.  Remember that the letters a, e, i, o, u and sometimes y are hard workers and can make two different sounds.   We have a lot of wonderful readers in Kindergarten.  Parents, your children should be able to read most of their homework books now.  They are choosing their own books every Monday.  When Guided Reading books come home, please have your child read it to as many people as possible.   In Math, we will be talking about height and length.  Look for objects that are taller/shorter than you!   We will be looking at the senses of smell and sight this week.   Valentine's Day is coming soon.  Please bring in your empty tissue box as soon as possible.   We are quickly approaching the 100th day of school! Wow! Time flies when your having fun!

Practice spelling these words at home and try and use them in your writing.   Poetry books will be going home this week. Parents, your child should know quite a few words in these poems! They are all becoming wonderful little readers. Have them practice reading the poems to you.   In Math, we are still working on geometry. Ask your child to tell you the 3D shapes they know.   If the weather co-operates, we will be going skating on Wednesday afternoon from 1- 2. You need skates and a helmet to go on the ice. Parents are more than welcome to join us for a fun afternoon!

Brr!! It's cold outside! Make sure you come to school dressed warmly this week!  It is too cold to skate on our outdoor rink but hopefully, we'll get out next week.   This week we will be reviewing the sounds for all letters of the alphabet.  We will be using these sounds to help us read and write!   Our sight words this week are: my, are.  See if you can spell them at home and use them in a sentence.  For example: My dog's name is Fletcher.  or  We are in Kindergarten.  Keep reviewing your sight word cards.  These words are important to know!   In Math, we are continuing to work on 3D shapes.  What shapes can you name?   We are learning about our 5 Senses.  Try and name all 5!   Have a super week in Kindergarten!

We have a new student in our class. Welcome to Gretna Green, Kya!   This week, we will be reviewing all our Zoophonics sounds and signals.  Keep practicing these at home.  Parents, make up some nonsense words and see if your child can sound them out! Use words like: suv, nip, sen and vov.  You can also say a word and have your child tell you the sounds in the word. For example, if you say dog, your child will say /d/  /o/   /g/.   Encourage your child to write at home.  Let them help prepare grocery lists or write notes to family members.  Encourage your child to stretch out the words and put down all the sounds they hear.    In Math, we are working on shapes.  Look around and see how many shapes you can find!   Show and Tell will be on Friday.  Check the schedule to see if it's your turn. During recess on Friday, students will be participating in a crazy sock hop!  Wear some crazy socks to school that day!
