Literacy:  In writing, students are working on the second part of their procedural writing “The Body”.  In this part, students will use the transition words; First, Next, Then, After that, Finally.  Using these words, help to keep students writing organized and clear.  Spelling:  We are continuing to review the concept of “Polite Partners”.  Polite Partners are when 2 letters come together and the first letter makes the sound (last week’s spelling concept), or when 2 letters come together and the second letter makes the sound, or when 2 letters come together and make a completely different sound. all, ball, call, fall, small, stall, tall, wall (these make the “awl” sound). shall (makes the “ al” sound). Math:  We are continuing to work on our “measurement unit”.  Students will not have homework this week in math.  You and Your World:  Students are continuing to work on their habitat projects.  We are hoping to complete these in the next week so we can present them to other grades and possibly parents. Language Arts:  This week in writing, we will learn how to write the “body” of procedural writing.  Last week, students focused on the “introduction”.  They learned to start their writing with a question (?), state an opinion (!) and finish with a strong lead.  A good introduction will help grab the attention of the reader.  Spelling:  Students will be introduced to “Polite Partners”. Definition of Polite Partners: When 2 letters come together, the first letter may make the sound (train). When 2 letters come together, the second letter may make the sound (aisle). Or When 2 letters come together, they make a completely different sound (said) “e”. This week’s spelling words: bait, gain, mail, rain, snail, trail, brain, strain, (first letter makes the sound) said (together they make a completely different sound) ·       Test will be on Thursday as there is no school Friday. Math: We are beginning our unit on “Measurement” Students will use words like “longer, shorter, heavier, and lighter” to help them compare objects.
