*Just a reminder there is no school on Friday. Spelling:  This weeks spelling words are focusing on the "sweet but Bossy Ellie Elephant" blade, shade, made, bake, cake, date, late, skate, made Our spelling test will be on Thursday this week. Math:  We are still working on Addition and Subtraction to 12.  Students have learned such strategies as "counting on"  example: 6 + 4 + 10....they would say 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.  Also they are learning to "counting back"  example 5 - 3 = 2 .....they would say "5" and count back 3.  I have uploaded some games to help them practice at home.    I just wanted to take this time and say a huge THANK YOU for all the treats and stickers I received last week.  Teacher Appreciation Week would not have been what it was without parents like you!   Have a great week and please return the homework binders on Thursday.  Thanks!

Spelling:  Sudents will be working on "old" word family.  Students will again notice this weeks vowel is the long sound. cold, fold, hold, gold, mold, old, told, go, no, so   On Tuesday, February 14, our class will have a Valentine's Day party.  Students can exchange their valentine's during this time.  Any treats must say "Peanut Free".  Thanks and Happy Valentine's Day   100 Day of School:We will be celebrating our 100 day of school on Monday, February 20.  A baggie was sent home on Friday asking students to collect 100 items.  Please return this on the 100th day of school. Spelling:  Students are working on the word family "ind" this week.  They have learned a new zoo phonics signal for when "i" says its own name.  Students are to show the same action for Inny Inch Worm and then point to themselves.  blind, find, hind, grind, kind, mind, wind Language Arts:  Students are continuing to work on the "Idea" trait.  Math:  We are now looking at Subtraction stories.  We are using terms like "subtract", "take away" "subtraction sentence" and "subtraction story". Note:  10 - 7 = 3 is called a subtraction sentence Reminder: Home folders (green) - should be returned each day. Homework binders (White) - Go home on Monday and are to be returned on Friday. Communications Logs - Go home on Friday and need to be returned on Monday.  Thanks for your ongoing cooperation. I would like to thank all the parents who came out last week to help tie skates!  I truly appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to help things run a little smoother.  Look for pictures in our Image Gallery!   Have a great week!

LANGUAGE ARTS:  There has been a change to the way homework books will be sent home for the week.  Students are now taking their books home in colored folders.  It has their name on them along with a note about when they need to bring to book(s) back. SPELLING:  We are working on the "th" sound.  We sometimes call this the rude sound because it makes you stick your tongue out.  REMINDER:  students green home folders need to be returned the following day, homework binders are to be returned on Friday. MATH:  We have completed our unit on Representing numbers to 20.  We are now starting addition and subtraction to 12.  Last week we looked at different combinations to build numbers. We will be starting number stories this week.  NO EXCUSE WORDS:  These are words (25) that grade one students should know how to write in a snap.  I gave students a quiz on them this week and have sent home the results.  Please continue to practice them at home. COMMUNICATIONS LOGS:  These will be sent home on Friday and need to be returned on Monday.  Have a great week!
