3 months has already passed. Wow! Where has the time gone? 3 more weeks until Christmas holidays are upon us. With that being said, we have much to accomplish. This week, we will be focusing on the letter Gg. A sound sheet will be placed in your child's reading bag tomorrow. We will also practice the letter Gg in cursive. Madame Lockerbie assited me with guided reading today. Your child will receive a new book on Monday and Wednesday as opposed to new book each night. This way, they can practice what they have been taught in our small groups in class. Guided reading affords me the time to work with your child in a small group setting while the others read their books either to themselves or a partners (depending on the day). That way there, I can tailor a mini-lesson on sounds, fluidity, comprehension, etc with a group of students who are reading the same level books. Our december video presentation is coming along well. We spent last week writing our rough copies. This week we will concentrate on revising our work and practicing what we have written in front of the class. My goal is to begin filming next week. We will also begin writing a draft copy for our letters to Santa. They need to be mail by December 12th, if I am to receive them prior to Christmas via Canada Post. In math, we are continuing our unit of patterns. Thus far. everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. I have witnessed great progress in their vocabulary as well. Bravo!   Reminders: Popcorn on Wednesday Library on Thursday December Scholastic orders due Friday Dec 7th. Christmas concert December 19th. Cheers, M.Glazier

This short week's theme will be about what makes us unique. Next week, we will begin discussing what our favorite passe times are.  Our focus will be the letter Mm. You will also notice on the sheet that they will practice at home this week (found in reading bag) that there is a new list of current words to practice as well. Cursive writing binders will be sent home tomorrow once we have had a chance to practice first in class. We are now reading C levels books in class. Books sent home this week are the same level as well. Please ensure that your child reads at home and write's down their book in their reading log sheet. I still see some students doing this in the morning, and it confuses them  as well as myself  as we exchange books. Madame France will also continue to record students' reading. She is in the process of recording student's reading level B books. Once complete, I will post teh audio files on my teacher page. It is expected that students be reading level C-D books by teh end of December. We are well on our way. In math, we will be learning new terms regarding patterns a.k.a les régularités. We will continue to work in our activity binders, play games on the Alberta Learn website, and complete textbook work. Tomorrow, students will be creating various patterns using, blocks, dice, base 10 units, etc. They will have to then explain their partners to a partner and then the class. Remember there is no school Friday. Report cards went home today.  Parents please sign and return the envelope. Thanks! Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday evening and Friday morning. In math, we began our unit of patterns a.k.a Les régularités. Again, they have a solid background from previous years. Our challenge now, is to learn the vocabulary and apply it to our daily math activities. We visited the library on Thursday, and read to our buddies in Kindergarden this afternoon. Next Tues and Thurs, we will be visiting to school's book fair. Tuesday we will browse and take orders. If you wish to purchase any books, your child can do so on Thursday.           Another week has come and gone. This past week, we nearly finalized our theme on family. We will hopefully wrap it up either on Tuesday or Wednesday. Thursday we will be speaking about our birthdays. In math, we reviewed all week for our quiz. Due to the assembly, we will complete the quiz on Tuesday. I corrected what has been completed thus fa. So far so good :) We read each question out loud, then one student was chosen at random to read the question to the class. Our next unit will be on patterns. Please return Ziplock with plastic money next Tuesday. Continue throughout the week to ask your child to count and represent random values. Also have them represent an amount more than once to compare which is more practical/efficient. We also continued recording ourselves reading (level A and B books) with Audacity. By Friday next week, I will post their readings on my teacher page. Today we had our school Remembrance Day assembly. Our song was a great success. They all sang very well! Bravo!         I sent home a Ziplock bag with plastic play money ("argent") today. Please take a few minutes each night and ask your child questions about money. For example, "show me $1.00", "show me .78", etc. Also have them represent values two different ways i.e "show me 2.00 two different ways", etc. You can also have you child use the Learn Alberta website (found on page two of my Web Links section) "compte argent" to play with the money. Ziplock bags can be returned next Friday. Any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
