Math 8

-We did a review on reducing fractions activity today.

-Students were given a review assignment for multiplying and dividing fractions.  This is to be done for Wednesday (even if their is a storm on Tuesday).

-Mathletics assignments are due at the end of the week.

Math 7

-Students wrote a formative math assessment today.  Summative test will be two classes from today.

-Mathletics assignments are due at the end of the week.

Math 6

-Today we learnt about equivalent ratios.  Students were given time to work on homework(see notes below).  Mathletics assignments are due at the end of the week.

Science 7

-Today we talked about fair tests and how to identify variables.  We went over how they will be marked.

-Students should now have their variables for STEM projects identified.  Students are to do the project this week.

Science 6

-Today we talked about how to write a hypothesis.  We looked at examples and the provincial rubrics of how it will be marked.Handout of notes was given.

-Homework is for students to write their hypothesis for their STEM project.

We are moving from the planning to the “doing” phase for our STEM fair projects.   We are asking parents to allow their child to work through the learning process.  Students are learning how to problem solve and think critically.  Encourage them to document their findings and allow them the chance to reflect and learn as they go.   We are looking forward to seeing what they can accomplish.

Math 7

-Students practiced how to reduce fractions today.  Corrections are for homework.

Math 6

-Students are to complete the worksheet on reducing fractions from today.

Science 7 and 8

-Guide books have been handed out for the project.  Students doing an experiment should have variables identified, testable question, hypothesis and procedure completed for Tuesday of next week.  Students working on inovations should have the problem identified, initial research done and plan 1 of prototype made.

-It was a double math day.  We continue to work on multiplying fractions.

Math 7

-We went over models for adding fractions.  We also looked at questions where fraction bands are used to model the question.  We solved addition of fractions when they had common denominators.

-Homework is p.179 Q 1, p. 180 Q2, p. 183 Q 1 and p.184 Q2.  Sign test and return with corrections.

Math 8

-Today we learnt about models for multiplying that use <<des jetons>>.  Homework is p. 113 Q7 (with jeton drawings) and Q 8 (method of choice to find the answer).

-Notes posted below.

Math 7

-Below you will find notes to review the major types of percent problems.  Students must read the question to know if they should add or subtract.  -Enrichment was given today and students were shown how to solve the question using notation like grade 8.  Some students may wish to show their work in this advanced method.

-Students did a formative assessment today and it will be passed back tomorrow.  Test Friday.

Math 6

-We continue to work at changing between mixed numbers and impropre fractions.  Today we saw how to do it without a model.

-Homework p. 168 Q 1, 2, 3, 4 and p. 169 Q 9.
