Welcome back to 4FI Glazier. Our last week before Christmas Holidays!  Activities for the week are as follows:

Monday: Christmas Hat Day

Tuesday: Twin Day

Wednesday: Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

Thursday: Jersey Day

Friday: PJ Day, Basket Ball Game Teacher versus Students

A reminder that Friday is a half day and dismissal will take place at 11:00 a.m. There will be no cafeteria or breakfast program that day. There will also be no homework this week J

Today we baked sugar cookies. Students had a great time! A big thank you goes out to the moms who came and helped out. Tomorrow we will be delivering to the women’s shelter and food bank.

As far as classes go, we will be finishing up our assignments and completing our multiplication unit in Math. After the holidays, we will continue with French, learn about division, and begin a new unit in Health and Science.

Welcome back to 4FI Glazier. Christmas concert will be this Thursday at 10 a.m. Students have been practicing and are eager to perform.  

Please note: Dec 22 is a half day for students. Dismissal will be at 11:15.

- Thank you for the postive responses related to next week's outreach project. Those parents who expressed interest have been contacted.

French - Our focus this week will be the conclusion of an informative animal text. There will be many holiday related activites to complete this week and next. As always, spelling test and comprehension tasks take part on Friday’s.

Math - We continue to practice our multiplication daily. This week’s focus will again be multiplication whilst skip counting, along with other related strategies. After the holidays students will be learning how to divide.  Please notify me if you wish to have any additional works sent home to practice. Unit test end of next week.

Social Studies - Students will learn how to write a post card describing a place that they have visited in Canada.

Welcome back to 4FI Glazier. December Scholastic orders will be placed on the 8th. Please note that Dec 22 is a half day for students. Dismissal will be at 11:15.

French - Students continue to draft their informative text about an animal. This week’s focus will be nutritional requirements. Next week, students will focus on their conclusion. As always, spelling test and comprehension tasks take part on Friday’s.

Math - We continue to practice our multiplication daily. We continue to practice the 3s. This week’s focus will be multiplication whilst skip counting. Unfinished work will be sent home. Please notify me if you wish to have any additional works sent home to practice. Unit test end of next week.

Social Studies - Students have completed their unit on Canada and have presented their projects to various classes. Our final step will be to write a post card to a friend describing a place that they have visited in Canada.

Welcome back to 4FI Glazier. Progress reports will be going home today. Parent teacher interview times have been indicated in report. Interview to take place this Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday 9-11 a.m.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is also taking place this week. Our scheduled time to visit will be Monday and Thursday morning from 10:30-11 p.m. Our December Scholastic order form will also be going home this week. Dec 8th will be our due date.

French - Students continue to draft their informative text about an animal. This week’s focus will be to describe their physical characteristics. Students will incorporate what they have learned previously in the writing to complete the task. As always, spelling test and comprehension tasks take part on Friday’s.

Math - We continue to practice our multiplication daily. Thus far we have focused on the 2, 4, and 5s. We continue to practice the 3s. We will continue with multiplication whilst using the “doubles” this week. We will also be introduced to the new terms to be covered in the unit. Unfinished work will be sent home. Please notify me if you wish to have any additional works sent home to practice. Unit test end of next week.

Social Studies – Our province/territory projects are well under way. Students have familiarized themselves with PowerPoint and are in the process of completing their assignments. Once complete, sudents will be presenting to various classes.

Welcome back to 4FI Glazier. I trust everyone had a restful long weekend. I’d like to congratulate the class along with Madame Lockerbie’s for a fantastic Remembrance Day ceremony performance last Friday. Students worked really hard and sang great!

There will be a special breakfast in our cafeteria this Saturday morning. Tickets were sent home last week. Please contact the school if you require further information.

French - Students will be introduced to our new informative writing piece and begin to draft their ideas this week.  Students will incorporate what they have learned previously in the writing to complete the task. As always, spelling test and comprehension tasks take part on Friday’s.

Math - We continue to practice our multiplication daily. Thus far we have focused on the 2, 4, and 5s. We continue to practice the 3s. This week’ focus will be multiplication whilst using the “doubles” strategy. We will also be introduced to the new terms to be covered in the unit. Unfinished work will be sent home. Please notify me if you wish to have any additional works sent home to practice. Unit test end of next week.

Social Studies - This week, students will be logging on to laptops for the first time using their passwords. We will explore how to use PowerPoint in preparation for our project. Our goal is to create our title page and upload images for our selected province/territory.

Welcome back to 4FI Glazier. A reminder that there is NO school Friday, November 10th. Teachers will be participating in a professional learning day. NO school Monday, November 13th as well due to Remembrance Day.

Our school Remembrance Service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the gymnasium. Students will have a dress rehearsal Wednesday.

French - We will be commencing a new informative text on an animal and/or monster from our Halloween activities. Students will incorporate what they have learned previously in the writing to complete the task. As always, spelling test and comprehension tasks take part on Friday’s.

Math - Unit 2 (Number Sense) test was written and corrected last Friday. They will be sent home Monday to be signed and returned. Bonus point for those who return by Thursday. We continue to practice our multiplication daily. Thus far we have focused on the 2, 4, and 5s. We are moving on the look at the 3 family.

Our new unit of study will be multiplication and division. This week our focus will be multiplying with the aid of doubles (mental math fact). Unfinished work will be sent home. Please notify me if you wish to have any additional works sent home to practice. Unit test end of next week.

Social Studies - We continue to learn about topography and resources throughout various provinces and Canada as a whole this week. We are working towards our final project.

Welcome back to our final week of October in 4FI Glazier. Students really enjoyed themselves last week. It was great to see GG and Halloween spirit alive and well throughout the school. Thank you to those who brought in goodies and treats for the class!

Our monthly assembly will take place this Friday in the gymnasium. We are all excited to see who will be student and class of the month.

French - Our descriptive writing piece will resume this week. Our final copy will be published Friday. Our next writing assignment will be an informative text on an animal and/or monster from last week’s Halloween activity. As always, spelling test and comprehension tasks take part on Friday’s.

Math – Unit this Friday on adding and subtracting. This week will serve as a review. Mini assignments and class quizzes will also be corrected. Unfinished work will be sent home. Please notify me if you wish to have any additional works sent home to practice. Unit test end of next week.

Social Studies - We will be learning about topography and resources throughout various provinces and Canada as a whole this week. We are working towards our final project.

Welcome back to another week in 4FI Glazier. This week will be filled with fun Halloween activities. Please refer to the list below:

French - This week’s activities will be based around Halloween. Our descriptive writing piece will resume next week. Spelling test and comprehension tasks take part on Friday’s.

Math – We will focus on subtracting (regrouping) of 3 and 4 digits this week. Unfinished work will be sent home. Please notify me if you wish to have any additional works sent home to practice. Unit test end of next week.

Social Studies - We will be learning how to read and create a map. Our task this week will be to map our school playground and orient the equipment in their proper place.

Welcome back to another week in 4FI Glazier. Cool weather is upon us. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for their chilly morning recesses.

Reminders:

  • Picture retakes on Wednesday, October 18th. The form that was sent home is due before Wednesday.

French - Daily work consist of word work, reading, and writing. Students continue to draft a descriptive writing piece on a person of interest. Students are in the process of self-correcting. Next students will correct with a partner before submitting it to myself for correction and final copy. Comprehension tasks take part on Friday’s.

Math – We continue to work on 3 and 4 digit subtraction, and are currently reviewing the 5 multiplication facts. Unfinished work will be sent home. Please notify me if you wish to have any additional works sent home to practice.

Social Studies – We are learning about physical characteristics throughout the various geographic regions of Canada. Students will be choosing a province/territory of their choice Friday in preparation for their in house project.

Welcome back to another week in 4FI Glazier. I trust everyone enjoyed their long weekend and had their fill of turkey.

Reminders:

  • Please check reading bag nightly for notices, information, and homework (due on Friday’s)

  • Read nightly for 10-15 minutes

  • Fire Safety presentation on Thursday from 9-10 a.m.

French - Daily work consist of word work, reading, and writing. Students continue to draft a descriptive writing piece on a person of interest. This week’s focus will be to draft a conclusion. Next week, students will first self-correct their assignments, and then correct with a partner before submitting it to myself for correction and final copy.

Math – This week’s focus will be to correct all classwork from last week and move on to 3 and 4 digit subtraction. Unit test next Friday. We will review the 4 multiplication facts. Unfinished work will be sent home.

Social Studies – We are exploring the provinces and territories of Canada along with capital cities. In the coming weeks, we will be learning about physical characteristics, climatic and vegetative zones, regions, habitats, government, and symbols of Canada. Later, students will conduct a research project of a given province and/or territory. Details to follow in the coming weeks.

Welcome back to another week in 4FI Glazier and our first week of October. It was great to see our students participate in Orange Shirt Day and our Terry Fox walk last Friday.

A reminder that next Monday is Thanksgiving weekend. There will be NO school on the 9th.

French - Daily work consist of word work, reading, and writing. Students continue to draft a descriptive writing piece on a person of interest. Last week student’s wrote and introduction and 1st paragraph describing their chosen person. This week’s focus will be tastes/preferences, and what makes them special. Vocabulary quiz on Friday.

Please note that the expectation as well is to read 10-15 minutes every night as homework. There will be evenings where your child will have the same book for consecutive nights. Doing so enables students to re-read and master the book. Books sent home have been rehearsed in class.

Math - We will be learning strategies to add 3 and 4 digits i.e. read from right to left, placing additions vertically, etc. Next week will be subtraction. Practice sheets will be sent home. We continue to review our 2 and 4 multiplication facts. We are slowly progressing with the 5 family. Expectation is up to 8x8 in Gr.4. Students will also practice writing numbers 20-30. Quiz on Friday. Unfinished work will be sent home.

Social Studies - We will be quickly reviewing the province of New Brunswick (major cities, geographical features, population, flag, urban vs rural areas, water ways, etc.). From there, we will be exploring the provinces and territories of Canada. Later, students will conduct a research project of a given province and/or territory. Details to follow in the coming weeks.

Welcome back to another week in 4FI Glazier. I trust everyone enjoyed our first weekend of fall.

Please note:

- Wednesday will be a half day. Student dismissal will take place at 11:15.

- Library will be open for student visits starting Tuesday.

- End-of-the-month assembly will take place Thursday at 10:15

- There will be no breakfast program on Friday.

- Friday is also Orange Shirt Day and our Terry Fox Walk. Our walk will take place at 1:30 p.m.

French - Daily work consist of word work, reading, and writing. Students continue to draft a descriptive writing piece on a person of interest. Students will express in writing the interest and tasks of their chosen subjects. Vocabulary quiz on Friday.

Please note that the expectation as well is to read 10-15 minutes every night as homework. There will be evenings where your child will have the same book for consecutive nights. Doing so enables students to re-read and master the book. Books sent home have been rehearsed in class.

Math - Students continue to learn about place value. This week’s focus will be Venn Diagrams. We have also reviewed our 2 and 4 multiplication facts. This week we will practice the 5s. Expectation is up to 8x8 in Gr.4. Practice sheets will be sent home. Students will also practice writing numbers 20-30. Quiz on Friday. Unfinished work will be sent home.

Health – We have completed our first unit. This week will serve as a review. Next week we will begin Social Studies.

Welcome back to another week in 4FI Glazier. Saturday was “Becca Told Me So” day. I trust everyone was able to do a good deed over the weekend.

Please note:

- I will be away on Wednesday. Mr. D. Gay will be in to replace me. I will be back in class on Thursday.

- Tuesday will be picture day. Individual and class photos will be taken.

- Wednesday students will practice bus evacuation procedures.

- Friday is our walking school bus. Everyone is encouraged to meet at Northumberland Square mall to walk to school. Staff and students will be leaving the mall at 7:30 a.m.

French - Our routine has been established. Daily work consist of word work, reading, and writing. For the month of September, students will be focused on writing a descriptive writing piece on a person of interest. Throughout, students will learn various traits and build their vocabulary.

The expectation as well is to read 10-15 minutes every night as homework. There will be evenings where your child will have the same book for consecutive nights. Doing so enables students to re-read and master the book. Books sent home have been rehearsed in class.

Math - Students are learning about place value. This week’s focus will be to compare, order, and distinguish numbers (i.e. greater than, less than, etc.) Unfinished work will be sent home. I also encourage students to also review and practice saying and writing their numbers up to one hundred in French.

Likewise, 10 minutes is schedule every class to review multiplication. Last week we reviewed the 2 family. This week we will look at the 4’s. Please practice at home. The expectation for Gr 4 is up to 8x8.

Health - This week will serve as a review of material covered. Students will create a poster indicating 3 positive things i.e. words of encouragement, being thankful, etc.

Welcome back to another week in 4FI Glazier. Our first week back is already in the books. It was fantastic to say the least! I am very impressed with the wealth of French that students have retained over their summer vacation. Routines and norms have been established. I look forward to a wonderful year ahead.

Please note that Fluoride consent forms were sent home on Friday. Please return to school if you have not already done so. Various notes (cafeteria menu, etc.) as well were also placed in your child’s reading bag.

Fire drill and lockdown procedures were reviewed last week and will continue this week. We will have a chance to practice as a school throughout the week.

French - We are in the process of establishing reading levels and groups. Once complete, books will be sent home to be read. The expectation is to read 10-15 minutes every night as homework. Books sent home have been rehearsed prior to being sent home.

Also, we have also begun to write. Last week, we established certain themes and individual words to be rehearsed throughout the week as part of our Daily 5 routine. Our first writing assignment will be an Informative piece. Students will be writing a descriptive writing piece as a final product.

Math - Students are learning about place value. Students are currently reviewing their numbers in French (orally/written). Last week’s assignment was to manipulate large numbers into tables, represent pictorially, and break down into individual strands. This week, we will correct and continue to practice.

Health - We are currently learning about our emotions. Last week’s theme was Appreciation. We learned to be thankful and respectful to others. This week, we will be looking at wants vs needs.
