Welcome back! Here’s hoping April showers will bring May flowers and not more snow J

There will be a presentation on Tuesday for all students from the CNIB.

*** Please ensure white homework binders are brought to school on Mondays for student’s weekly work and that reading bags are brought daily for notices, handouts, etc.***

French - Our homework sheet for the week will be entitled “Le printemps” Our animal and pet unit will wrap up this week. We will be moving on to talk about our family next week. This week’s goal will be to continue completing our good copy of our funny/weird animal writing assignment.

Guided reading will also take place with myself during our Daily 5. Whilst a group is reading, others will be working in various centers. Students will receive new book within a 4 day cycle to be brought home along with their new sound and song/poem sheet of the week. Please note that year end expectation for students is to be within the F-G-H range.

Math – Multiplication and division test was held last Thursday. They will be corrected and sent home to be signed. We will begin Measurement (rulers, time, calendars, etc. Monday. Please feel free to go to Learn Alberta website found in my web links to practice various outcomes. Math Reflex is also another great resource that students have been practice here at school.

Health - Our focus this week will again revolve around emotions. What makes us happy, sad, etc.

Social Studies - We continue to discuss the province of NB. Students will located the major cities within the province, and make reference in relation to each other.

Science – This week we will be potting bean and grass seeds in preparation for various experiments. From there, students will create a dictionary of plant terms.

Welcome back to our first week of April! A big thank you goes out to everyone who supported Renous’s bid to win Kraft Hockeyville. What an overwhelming success!

Please note that the Scholastic Book Fair is up and running this week. Time will be set aside for students to visit. The fair will also be open during parent teacher interviews.

Pizza will be served on Thursday. A notice was sent home with students’ report cards.

Social Studies - We will discuss the province of NB and locate in relation to the rest of Canada.

Welcome back to our last full week of March. I look forward to going outside in the near future for morning recess.

There will be a free breakfast this Thursday for all student in the cafeteria. Students will also be allowed to chew gum on Friday for $1 as a fundraiser to the grade 8 fieldtrip.

***Friday is also Jersey Day across ASD-N in support of Renous’s bid to win Kraft Hockeyville.

French - Our homework sheet for the week will be entitled “Le printemps” Our animal and pet unit continues. This week’s goal will be write a rough copy based on our funny/weird animal drawing from last week. We will also have a French author visit Thursday. I look forward to her presentation.

Math - We continue to practice our multiplication daily during our morning routine. We will focus on the 4’s this week. Our focus will be division this week. Health - Our focus this week will be the importance of physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.  

Social Studies - We will continue to discuss the difference between an urban and rural community.

Welcome back. I look forward to the first day of spring this Wednesday. A reminder to parents that there will be no school this Friday as it is a designated professional development day for teachers.

Elementary STEM Fair will be held this Tuesday afternoon at 12:45. Guest are invited to view the many projects created by students.

French - Our homework sheet for the week will be a review of last week’s “C’est mars” sheet. Our animal and pet unit continues. This week’s goal will be to create a unique animal of our own and describe its various features.

Guided reading will also take place with myself during our Daily 5. Whilst a group is reading, others will be working in various centers. Students will receive new book within a 4 day cycle to be brought home along with their new sound and song/poem sheet of the week. Please note that year end expectation for students is to be within the F-G-H range.

Math - We continue to practice our multiplication daily during our morning routine. We will continue with the 3’s this week. We will be transitioning over to division this week and reviewing the concept of division. Please feel free to go to Learn Alberta website found in my web links to practice various outcomes. Math Reflex is also another great resource that students have been practice here at school.

Health - Students will be creating a healthy super hero character with the remainder of our flyers. Students will be tasked with naming all the items used to create their character and what food group would be most suitable.

Social Studies - We continue to learn all about maps and how to read them with the assistance of cardinal points and a legend. We will also discuss the difference between an urban and rural community.

Welcome back. Already week 2 into March. I enjoyed listening to students stories about their March Break adventures. 

A STEM Fair notice was uploaded to my page prior to the break. A reminder that March 19th is STEM Fair at school for those presenters who chose to participate. Students may bring in their projects this Thursday and Friday if they wish to finalize and practice presenting.

French - Our sound of the week will be “Cc = Ss” and a sheet entitled “C’est mars.” Sheets will be sent home on Tuesday. Our animal and pet unit will continue. This week’s goal is to begin describing various feature of animals i.e. whether they have fur, feathers, scales, etc.

Guided reading will also take place with myself during our Daily 5. Whilst a group is reading, others will be working in various centers. Students will receive new book within a 4 day cycle to be brought home along with their new sound and song/poem sheet of the week. Please note that year end expectation for students is to be within the F-G-H range.

Math - We will be practicing our multiplication daily during our morning routine. We have already worked up to 2x12 and will concentration on the 3’s for the next 2 weeks. Our focus this week will be the use of matrices (a.k.a. a group of objects organized into equal rows) to assist with multiplying. Please feel free to go to Learn Alberta website found in my web links to practice various outcomes. Math Reflex is also another great resource that students have been practice here at school.

Health - Students will be recreating the Canadian Food Guide by cutting out and gluing pictures from flyers. We will be discussing the various groups and recommended servings, whilst learning new vocabulary.

Social Studies - Students will be learning all about maps and how to read them with the assistance of cardinal points and a legend.

REMINDER

Dear Parents,

     Our STEM Fair is fast approaching. If your child is interested in participating in the STEM Fair this year, s/he may do so.  Participation is optional in Grade 3 FI. I am asking the students to do the project at home. They can work with a friend, if they wish. The project will be done in English as students don’t have all the necessary French “Science” language at this time.

     If your child is doing a Science Project for the STEM Fair, s/he can bring the completed project to the classroom Thursday, March 14th  or Friday so we can put the final touches on it.  Students will also practice presenting their project to their classmates.

     The school STEM Fair will be held Tuesday, March 19th, 2019. The students will display their projects in their classroom. Parents are invited to visit the classrooms and view the projects.

Please note that Thursday, February 28th is "Jersey Day" and Friday, March 1st is "Pyjama Day" Thursday afternoon we will be going outside all afternoon for outdoor activities planned by M. Ryan.

PS I'd like to wish everyone a happy and restful March Break. I am excited to see everyone and continue learning en français when we get back.

A reminder to parents that a memo was sent home last week concerning Winterfest activities. Please refer for details of events. Monday, Feb 25th is "Twin Day." Students will also be going skating from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Helmets are mandatory. The school has skates and helmets for those who do not have any.

Students will receive new book within a 4 day cycle to be brought home along with their new sound and song/poem sheet of the week. Please note that year end expectation for students is to be within the F-G-H range.

Math - Corrected math test will be sent home Tuesday. Please sign and return. We will be practicing our multiplication up to 5 x 5 daily and how our doubles (math facts) assist. Our focus this week will be the terminology and repeated additions to yield multiplication answers.  Please feel free to go to Learn Alberta website found in my web links to practice various outcomes. Math Reflex is also another great resource that students have been practice here at school.

Health - We will be reviewing Canada’s Food Guide and what constitutes healthy vs unhealthy choices.

Dear parents,

These next few weeks in French, we will be talking about animals. We will be discussing and describing pets that we have at home or pets that we would like to have. We will also describe our pets’ temperament. Your child is more than welcome to bring in a picture of their pet or a favorite animal that s/he likes. If you wish, you can send me an e-mail with a pic attached (ryan.glazier@nbed.nb.ca). They can share their picture with the class. Examples of oral structures that will be introduced include: J’ai un lapin. Il s’appelle ___. Il a X ans. Je n’ai pas…Je veux avoir un ___ Mon animal préféré est…Il s’appelle ___. Il est gros. Il a X ans. Son corps est recouvert de ___ (poil, écaille, plumes). Mon ___ a de petites oreilles et les yeux ___. Ses yeux sont ___, ses oreilles sont ___. Mon animal est ___...(gentil, calme, excite, fidèle, heureux) We will make a class book about our animals to end the unit. I feel that the students really enjoy this part of the curriculum. We will have a busy, but fun few weeks.

Welcome back. It is Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to the Home and School for preparing a wonderful week.

We will be celebrating Valentines Day in class Thursday afternoon. Students may hand out Valentines. A reminders that unhealthy snacks, chocolates, etc. are not permitted as per provincial policy.

A notice will be sent home next week as well in regards to STEM Fair (a.k.a. Science Fair). Please refer to your child’s reading bag early next week.

Welcome back to our first full week of February. We will have an author visiting us Monday morning. Peter Clark will be entertaining students in the gymnasium with stories and poems from his books.

Wednesday is Global Play Day/Winter Walk Day. We will be going sliding after lunch (weather permitting). The school has 15 sleds on hand. Students are encourage to bring their own if they choose.

Friday will be hat day. Students who choose to wear their hat must pay $1. Monies raised will go towards the gr 8 field trip.

Last Thursday was supposed to be our SNAP graduation party held by Big Brothers and Big Sisters. We will see if this is to be rescheduled.
