I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving weekend. There are so many things to be thankful for in our lives. I know that I am very thankful to have such a wonderful group of students to teach this year.

The Cross Country meet this week is at Max Aitken. The meet starts at 4:00.

This week is the Soccer Jamboree on Friday. If you are attending, make sure you return your permission slip.

It is starting to get a bit colder in the mornings.  Make sure you have warm clothing especially for the morning recess. Hats and mitts will make recess more fun!

Language Art - This week we will brainstorming more ideas for writing. We will learn three more October Spelling words and review the two we already know.

Math - We will be working on comparing and ordering numbers as well as skip counting by 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 25.

Science - This week we will be preparing the soil in our Tower Garden and our Hydropontics system. Hopefully we will have seeds planted by the end of the week.

Health - We will be participating in our third "SNAP" lesson.

Happy October Superstars! We are beginnning a new month and we will be adding a new activity to our Superstar board. We will continue to work on lining up and being good listeners. As well, we will practice greeting people with a smile in the morning and saying "Hello".

Congratulations to Whittney, Wynston and Conall who participated in the Catapult Challenge this past weekend at the Pumpkin Fling on Waterford Green. Our GG Team placed third!! Way to go Superstars!

Congratulations to Jarrod who came in Second Place at the Mountain Bike Race on Friday.Way to go Jarrod!

On Thursday, the cafeteria will have their Thanksgiving Day meal.

We have a field trip this Friday to Fletcher Family Farm. I am excited to make my way through the Corn Maze.

This week we will be learning about Coding on Monday afternoon. This will be the beginning of several coding lessons that Mr. Duplessie will be helping us with.

Soccer - Tuesday October 2 Nelson2 @ Gretna Green game time 3:30

            Thursday October 4 GG @ NSER game time 3:30

Cross Country - This week's meet is at England's Hollow @ 4:00.

 

Language Arts - We will be learning how to plan our weekly Daily 5 on Monday. The rest of the week we will following our individual Daily 5 schedules. We will also be working on the Ideas Trait in writing.  In word work, we will start to learn our new October Words.

Math - This week we will finish up our Math Centers on Representing Numbers and start looking for patterns in number charts.

Social Studies - This week we are going to investigate Soils so we can start to prepare our Tower Garden.

Science - We will be learning how to Code.

We are already into our last full week of September and it has been a fantasic month! We have already had two class rewards and we are close to filling on our Superstar board again!

Library is on Tuesday this week.

This week we will be introduced to a new program from Big Brother's Big Sister's call SNAP!

Friday is Orange shirt day.

Cross Country - This week's meet is at Gretna Green at 4:00.

Language Arts - This week we are going to learn the routines for the rest of Daily 5: word work, Read to Someone and Listen to Reading. We will also be focusing on ideas for writing.

Math - This week will continue to learn different ways to represent numbers.

Social Studies - We will be learning all about "Orange Shirt" Day and we will be beginning our Unit on Soils,

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather on the weekend!! This week is the beginning of the Terry Fox Spare Change drive. We have a spare change container in our classroom for anyone who wants to donate. Our Terry Fox walk will be Friday afternoon at 1:30.

Also this week is our Walking School Bus!! Thursday morning, everyone is encouraged to meet us at the Northumberland Square Mall to walk to school. You must have an adult to walk with you!

On Monday we will have our 15 minute free time reward for filling our Superstar board again.  You are proofing that you know how to be great listeners! Well done Superstars.

Language Arts - This week we will continue to work on our Daily 5 routines. We will continue to work on Read to Self, Work on Writing and we will be adding Word Work.

Math - We will continue to work on Representing Numbers in Different Ways.

Social Studies - We will continue to get prepared for the Gretna Green "Student Vote".

A reminder to students and parents that tomorrow, Thursday, September 13 is Meet the Teacher Night at 6:00 in our school cafeteria and Friday, September 14 is Picture Day!!

Welcome back Superstars. We had a fabulous first week of school. This week we will continue to fill up our Superstar Board. We are still working on "Being A Good Listener" and "Lining Up".

There are a few things ahead of this week. Picture day is Friday, make sure you wear your picture best smile. There will also be a practice fire drill on Tuesday morning and remember that we are trying to fill up the school Bucketfilling board with acts of kindness for #Becca Told Me to day.

Our Gretna Green breakfast program will be opening this week.

Soccer starts this week for Grades 4 and 5. Practice is Wednesday September 12 from 2:30 to 3:30. Make sure you have a drive home after practice.

Crosscountry starts this week too for grade 3, 4 and 5.  Practice is Tuesday afterschool from 2:30-3:30 .Make sure you have a drive home after practice.

Language Arts - This week we will be slowly learning the steps to our Daily 5 routines. We will be practicing Read to Self, Work on Writing and working on our word list.

Math - We will be learning how to represent numbers in words and the standard form.

Social Studies - We will be starting our unit on "Students Vote" that will get us prepared to vote on election day.

Science - We will be doing a STEM Challenge on Monday.

This is our last week of school superstars!! It is going to be a great week! Remember that the cafeteria is closed this week. You can not order or buy anything. You need to bring your lunch.

Monday - There will be a short assembly in the afternoon. to practice our "song".

Tuesday - Track and Field(JMH High School) - This is an all day event so make sure you are prepared.  Wear sneakers and dress for the weather. You should bring a hat, sunscreen, a lunch and water. 

There will be a canteen on site selling the following: Taco Salad in a Bag $5.00, Hotdog $2.00, hamburgers $3.00, Chips $1.00, cookies $1.00, muffin $1.00, orange slices in a bag $1.00 and water $1.00,

Wednesday - We are going to re-plant our plants from our Tower Garden into the school's new community garden. There will be a short presentation from the Newcastle Public Library.

Thursday - There will be a year end assembly at 10:00 and in the afternoon we will have our annual student-teacher softball game.

Friday - report card day. Dismissal will be at 11:15

Only 2 more weeks left Superstars!! I can't believe our year is almost over. This week is going to be another fun and exciting week!

Tuesday we have our class trip to Clay Cafe. We will leave the school around 8:50 and walk to Clay Cafe.

Thursday we will have our class trip to Kouchibouguac. The weather looks like it is going to be nice for both trips.  Remember to dress for the weather and bring a bag lunch to Kouchibouguac. There will be NO MICROWAVE the heat things up.

We are going to try to finish up our Personal Projects this week as well.

This is our final week for Daily 5. Your binders and writing folders will go home with you on Friday.

We will be doing Math Centers again this week.

WOW! Only 3 short weeks of school left!  This has been a fantastic year my Superstars. I hate to see it come to an end!! 

This week we have our Ducks Unlimited trip on Tuesday morning.  Remember to dress for the weather.  It looks like it could rain. The trip is a rain or shine event so dress warm.  You will need to wear rubber boots so you can go in the water to search for little critters.

Language Arts - We will be working on poems this week in Language Arts. As well, we will be working on our Personal Projects.

Math - This week we will have math centers.

Science/Social Studies - We will be working on our Personal Projects.

Wow Superstars, it is the end of May.  This year has gone by so fast!! Check out our Egg Drop Video.  That activity was alot of fun and we only broke 5 eggs!!  Remember to start putting on sunscreen in the mornings. The is starting to get warmer during our recess time. 

Wednesday is a half day of school.  It is the last half day Professional Development for teachers this year.  We are also going to watch the dress rehearsal for the Wizard of Oz on Wednesday morning.  I can't wait to see Nate, Michael, Rhylee, Caleb, Wynston and Jarrod in action!!

Thursday evening at 6:00 will be the actual performance.

Language Arts - This week we will be working on alliteration in poems

Math - We will begin to create our survey questions and hope to complete ours graphs this week.

Science - This week we are going to look at a Coding activity.

I hope everyone enjoed their long weekend and the beautiful weather that we had.  This is Provincial Assessment week for Grade 4 students.  Each morning this week we will spend time completing this assessment.  I know you will rock it!! 

PLESE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE NO CAFETERIA SERVICE THIS WEEK

This is our last week of homework for the year. I do not assign homework for the month of June.

You will have a permission slip in your homefolder for our upcoming June Field Trips.  Make sure you get this signed an return as soon as you can.

Our new STEM Challenge this week is going to be the "Great Egg Drop". Thanks to Caleb for the idea. This should be lots of fun!

In Math this week we are going continue working on Data Management.

I hope everyone treated their mom's very special for Mother's Day and I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather we had!  This week we will be treated to a Career on Wheels Day.  This will take place on Thursday.  You can also dress up as what you want to be when you grow up.

There will be a Bake Sale on Thursday hosted by our Grade 8 students.

Go For 42 will start on Monday. Get out and stay active!

Language Arts - This week we will be doing Reading Comprehension activities as a review for the Provincial Exam

Math - We will be working with Measurement  and Data Management this week.

Science - We will finish our Stem Challenge this week.

I hope everyone enjoyed their extra long weekend! It looks like a nice week of weather ahead of us.  Starting this week we will be going outside for morning recess too. Make sure you are dressed appropriately. The morning are still cool.

Grade 5 will be hosting their annual Yard Sale on Thursday this week. If you want to purchase something make sure you have money for Thursday.

Grade 4 and 5 students will be attending an Internet Safety presentation on Thursday morning as well this week.

Language Arts - This week we will be starting to work on poetry.

Math - We will be finishing One Step Equations and we will be learning about Probability and Measurement.

Science - This week we will have another STEM Challenge.

We have a short week of school ahead of us, only 3 days! There is NO SCHOOL for students on Thursday and Friday.  Thursday is NBTA Branch Meetings for teachers and Friday is NBTA Subject Council. There will be NO HOMEWORK this week due to the short week.

This is Ms. Valanne's last week of her Student Internship.  We will be sad to see her leave.

On Monday morning at 10:00, we will be watching the dress rehersal for the Middle School Play. Recess will be early at 9:45.

Wednesday we will be treated to a Yoga Session in the gym. I am really looking forward to this and I hope you enjoy it too!!

This week we will be working hard to finish our Habitat projects.

Congratulations superstars on a fantastic performance of "Casey At the Bat". We are very proud of you and you should be proud of yourself! 

Remember that Wednesday this week is a half day of school. There is Teacher Professional Development in the afternoon.

Do not forget to pack extra socks in your backpack in case you feet get wet at noon hour.  The weather is suppose to be nice all week so there will be lots of melting on playground.

Language Arts - this week we are going to work with Amazing Adjectives!

Math - we are going to continue with our unit on Patterns.

Science - We are going to work on our Habitat projects!
