This Week in GG4SS - November 2 - 6

Welcome to the first week of November!! *This is Shark week in GG4SS.  We are going to have a Syype Video chat with Sharks4Kids on Wednesday.*Remember that the mornings are getting colder, dress warm for the morning recess!*Wednesday is Take You Child to work day.  Many Grade 9 students will be coming to Gretna Green to shadow teachers.  My daughter, Lauren, will be joining us for the day. Language Arts - We are going to share our Partnered Halloween stories this week and we are going to start looking at the Writing Trait of Organization.  We will review the proper spelling of to, too, and two!Math - We will work on the unit review for Whole Numbers and we will have the Unit Test on Wednesday.Science - We will present our Rocks and Mineral projects and we will begin to learn about Sharks and their Habitat. Let's have another SUPERSTAR week!

This Week in GG4SS - October 26 - October 30

It's Halloween Week at Gretna Green.  There are fun Halloween activities planned everyday.Monday is Buddy Writing Day and Pumpkin Decorating Day.Tuesday is Scary Hair Day.Wednesday is Halloween Gym Activity Day.Thursday is Black and Orange Day.Friday is our Parade of Costumes and Wrap the Day activity. Language Arts - This week we will be writing our partnered scary stories.Math - We will be starting the Subtraction Mental Math unit.Science - We will finish our Rocks and Mineral projects and present them. Let's have another Superstar week!

This Week in GG4SS - October 19 - 23

 Welcome back to a full 5 day week of school Superstars. It is going to be a great week!* Mad Science begins this week, Wednesday after school.*Drama continues this week.*The District Soccer Jamboree will take place on Tuesday at Croft.*Picture re-takes are on Thursday.*Our school fundraiser wrapped up last Friday.  You can still bring order forms in on Monday if you have any at home.  We will find out later in the week who the prize winners are.*Remember to bring warm clothing for the morning recess.  It is starting to get cooler in the mornings. Language Arts - This week we will learn about the proper use of Apostrophies.Math - We will be starting our Lesson on Estimating Subtraction of 3 and 4 digit numbers.Science - We will start and finish our Rocks and Mineral projects in between our Remembrance Day practices. Let's have another Superstar week!

This Week in GG4SS - October 13 - 16

Happy Thanksgiving Superstars.  I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!!*Drama continues this week. Check your schedule for practice times.*The Soccer team plays Nelson on Tuesday at 3:30.*The last Cross Country meet will take place on Wednesday at 4:00 in Blackville.*Remember to bring in your Mad Science forms if you are interested in participating in this program.*This week is Kindergarten Registration week for anyone who has a sibling that will be starting school next Fall.*Remember to continue selling for our School Fundraiser. There are great prizes to win!*Interim Report cards go home on Friday. Language Arts - This week we are going to focus on the word ending TION, SION.  Also we will continue to work with this Writing Trait of Ideas.Math - We will starting the next Lesson on Adding three and four digit numbers.Science - We are going to start our Rocks and Mineral projects. Let's have another Superstar week!!

This Week in GG4SS - October 5 - 7

 It is the first week of October for us and it is a short week of school.  Remember that there is No School on Thursday and Friday because teacher's have Professional Learning Days.*There will be NO Homework this week because it is a short week.*Last Wednesday's NSEE Cross Country Meet has been re-scheduled for Monday, October 5 at 4:00.*Drama practice continues this week.*The soccer team will play St. Andrew's Elementary on Tuesday, October 6.  Game time is 3:30. Language Arts - This week we will continue to work on the Ideas Trait in Writing and we will be reviewing vowel sounds.Math - We will start Lesson 5 on Usng Mental Math to Add Three and Four Digit Sums.Science - This week we are going to start projects on Rocks and Minerals to show what we have learned in this unit. Let's have another Super Star week!!HAPPY THANKSGIVING

This Week in GG4SS - September 28 - Oct 2

 This week marks the end of September and the beginning of October.  Remember that the morning recess is a bit cooler...dress for the weather!*I hope everyone had a chance to check out the Night Zookeeper website.*Drama practice starts this week.*Cross Country and Soccer continue this week. Good luck to all. Language Arts - This week we will be starting our full Daily 5 sessions.  We have completed all our practice sessions. We will also be reviewing short vowel sounds and will be generating Ideas for Writing. Math - We will be working on Lesson 4 Estimating Sums.  This is the last week to practice our 2 and 3 times table. Remember to be studying at home.  We will have a timed test on Friday. Science - We will be continuing with our Rocks and Minerals unit. Let's have another Superstar week!

This Week in GG4SS - September 21 - 25

 Heh Superstars...we have a super week ahead of us with tons of fun and cool things to do. *Monday is picture day..remember to look your best!*Monday is also ELECTION DAY at GG. We will find out who our new student council president, vice-president and secretary will be.*The Terry Fox Spare Change Drive will be on Monday and run all week.  If you bring in a Loonie for the Terry Fox Foundation, your name will go in a draw for Principal of the Day!!        *****Good work  with your Terry Fox presentations on Friday!!!!!!!!!******* *Tuesday we will have a Bus Evacuation practice. *Friday is our Walking School Bus and Terry Fox Walk. It would be great to see all of our Superstars joining us at the Northumberland Square Mall to walk to school!! *Friday we will also have a Skype Session with the Night Zookeeper Company.  It looks like an awesome activity!! Language Arts - This week we will continue working on our expectations for Daily 5.  This week we will be focusing on Buddy Reading, Writing and Listening to Reading. Math - We will be reviewing ways to Respresent Numbers and learning how to compare numbers to 10 000.  Science- We will be starting a new unit on the study of Rocks and Minerals. Let's have another Superstar Week!!

This Week in GG4SS - September 14-18

 Welcome to our first full week of school in Grade 4!  It is going to be an awesome week!!*Meet the Teacher night will take place Tuesday, September 15 at 6:00.  Big Brother/Big Sisters will have their FunZone available for students.  Hopefully everyone can make it!*Tuesday we will be Celebrating International Dot Day.  We will be marking our mark on 4th Grade!!*The cafeteria will be open for orders this week.*Our school breakfast program will begin this week as well!.*There will be a fire drill during the week to practice a safe exit from our building.*Hopefully everyone had a chance to practice on the Arcademics website!! Language Arts - This week we will be working on building our stamina in Read To Self.  As well as finding a Good Fit book.  You will also be working on the Writing part of Daily 5. Math - We will continue working with Numbers to 10 000. We will be learning how to represent numbers using the Expanded Form and with a Place Value Chart. This will be the first week of our Math Centers!Social Studies - We will start orgainzing the Terry Fox campaign for our school. This is going to be a SUPERSTAR week!

I look forward to getting to know our new group of Superstars!! I hope everyone had a great summer and is ready to have fun.Please note that is NO Cafeteria service this week.  All lunches will have to be brought from home.Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow!

This Week in GG4SS - The LAST Week of School June 15- June 19

 It is the last week of school!! We have a busy and fun week ahead of us.*Friday's dismissal is at 11:15.  You will take your regular bus home unless you are going to be picked up.Monday is the Sod Turning ceremony for the new additional to our school.  Remember to wear your Green and Gold! The whole school will meet outside at 1:30 to mark this exciting event.Tuesday will be FUN DAY for our grades K-2. Our FUN DAY will be on Thursday morning!Wednesday there will be an assembly for our monthly awards at 1:30.Thursday there will be our annual book swap and our annual student vs teacher ball game.  GO TEACHERS!!! Let's have our last superstar week in Grade 4!!

This Week in GG4SS - June 1-5

 It is hard to believe but there are only 3 short weeks of grade 4 left!!  Let's enjoy them.*Congratulations on winning Class of the Month for our 3rd time this year.*Congratulations on reading over 200 books this year.  We are going to have our Ice Cream Party celebration this week!!*We have our Field Trip to the Aquarium in Shippegan this week. Remember to pack a lunch that doesn't have to be heated up.  Also, remember to dress for the weather.  It should be a great trip!*The GG Bike Rally will take place this week on Wednesday.  Good luck to all our bikers.*Homework is finished for the year!! We will have NO HOMEWORK for the month of June..hooray!!!Language Arts - We are going to be playing Language Arts games and review Synonms. Antonyms and Homonyms.Math - We are going to start our Unit on Geometry.Science - We are going to finish our Habitat projects.Let's  have another Superstar week!!
