Please Note Changes!!

Please note the changes that have been made to the daily routines at Gretna Green.  As of Tuesday April 9, access to Gretna Green will be limited to the main entrance door.  All visitors(this includes parents picking up students) will now be asked to sign in at the main office if they wish to move beyond the office area, and they will be given a visitor's pass. When leaving,visitors must sign out, return the pass and exit through the main entrance as well.  These changes have been implemented to increase the overall safety of our students and staff.

This Week in Grade 3S - April 8-12

  A full week of school!! Our year is going by so fast, it is already the second week in April!!       *Drama continues this week afterschool.    *Mad Science starts on Thursday. The deadline for applications for Mad Science is MONDAY!    * Roots of Empaty - Kim will be here on Thursday to introduce our new unit of study.   Language Arts - We will continue to work with our April spelling words.  We will also be looking at the Writing Trait of Voice! Math - We will finish our unit on Measurement and continue working on Mental Math strategies. Science - We will investigate Magnets again and then we are going to start a project on Magnets this week!   Let's have another SUPERSTAR week!

This Week in 3S - April 2 - 5

 I hope everyone enjoyed their long Easter break!!  We have a short but busy week ahead of us.  *The  "I'm A Thumbody" group will back on Tuesday to complete the second part of their lesson.   * Thursday we have our follow up Roots of Empathy lesson.   * Thursday and Friday is Parent/Teacher time.     * Remember there is NO School on Friday!!   Language Arts - We will continue to look at the Writing Trait of Conventions. Math - We be working with Measurement all week! Science - We will be starting our new unit of study on Magnets!  Let's have another Superstar week!!

This Week in Grade 3S - March 25 - 28

  Wow....the week before Easter!  Remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Friday this week!  * The Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place all week. Our class will visit the book fair on Monday and Wednesday at 2:00.  Check the flyer that was sent home for your wish list! * "I'm  A Thumbody" - We will have guests from NBCC in our class on Tuesday morning to present a program about Self-Esteem.  This is the first of a two part lesson! * Roots of Empathy - Baby Elena will be visiting on Thursday morning. *Thursday is also Report Card day! *The District Elementary Science Fair will take place at GG on Tuesday morning.  Congratulations to Shariq, Shahd and Emma-Ann for being pick to attend on behalf of 3S!! Language Arts - We will continue to work on evaluating our own written work.  As well we will be practicing our spelling words.  Our spelling test is on Thursday! Math - We will have our Unit Test on Addition and Subtraction and start our unit on Measurement.   Let's have another Superstar week!

This Week in 3S - March 18 to March 22

   Wow the first day of Spring is this week!  Where is the year going? *Drama continues this week *The District CUTE Awards will take place this Wednesday evening at JMH theatre starting at 7:00.  Congratulations to Shahd for her the nomination for her Christmas Traditions podcast!!  Also congratulations to Kevin and his group on their nomination for the Video Game project.  Our class was also nominated for the 21 Century work we do with our Mystery Skypes!  WAY TO GO SUPERSTARS!!! * Roots of Empathy will take place on Thursday afternoon.  This week are starting a new theme about Safety! * School Science Fair - Friday afternoon....all parents are welcome to attend throughout the afternoon.  Our Superstars are working really hard on their projects.  You will be impressed....pictures will be posted soon!   Language Arts - We will be learning how to assess our own writing this week. Math - We will finish up our Unit on Subtraction of 3 Digit Numbers Science - We will be finishing our Science projects.   Let's have another SUPERSTAR week!

GG Science Fair Coming Soon!!!

  Our Gretna Green Science Fair will take place on Friday March 22, 2013.  Gretna Green is also hosting the District Fair on Tuesday, March 26, 2013! Our Grade 3 Superstars will start working on their projects this week! They will be paired up and will choose a topic this week.  All work on the Science Fair projects will be done at school...this is to ensure the superstars will complete the work on their own.  We might however be asking for items to be sent in for the projects.  Parents will get a chance to see the finished projects on Friday March 22, 2013!!

This Week in 3S - February 25 - March 1

  Student Appreciation Week!!!  It is our turn to show you how much we appreciate what great kids you are!!   Monday - Extra long recess; Survivor(grade 5 vs teachers) starts in the gym at 1:30;SPELL-A-THON money due                Drama afterschool                           Tuesday - Come In Character Day!; Survivor Day 2 @1:30 gym                           Wednesday - PJ Day!!!  Free Popcorn; Girl's bball afterschool; Survivor Day 3                           Thursday - School Spirit Day - wear GREEN and GOLD!!; boys bball afterschool!                                            Outdoor Hockey tournament for Grades 2-5                            Friday - Spell-A-Thon Prize Assembly 10:45                                          Monthly Spelling Test!!                                        Student/Teacher hockey game in the afternoon! Language Arts- We will be working on our Spelling words and word choice Math - We will continue to subtract with 3 digit numbers Social Studies - We will finish up our Unit on the People of NB Roots of Empathy will take place on Thursday morning!   Let's have another Superstar week!!

This Week in 3S - February 18 -22

  *Spell-A-Thon Week!  You will have your Spell-A-Thon test on Friday morning.  I hope you are collecting money and studying your words!  *Family Winterlude - Sunday, February 24, Gretna Green will host a Family Winterlude from 1-3.  Families are ecouraged to join our school community in an afternoon of skating, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.  * Drama and basketball continue this week after school.                            * Our Choir members will be participating in an assembly on Friday morning.   Language Arts - We will continue to focus on the Writing Trait of Word Choice. Math -We will start to look at subtracting and estimating the difference of two and three digit numbers. Social Studies - We will finish our Unit on People of New Brunswick. Let's have another Superstar Week!

This Week in 3S - February 11 - 15

     Valentine's Week! There will be a class list in your homework so you can complete your Valentine's for your classmates.  We will exchange Valentine's on Thursday afternoon!   * Drama continues this week on Monday and Wednesday after school. Remember to make arrangements to get picked up at 3:30 if you are in Drama!                           * Basketball continues on Wednesday and Thursday.                           * The Home and School Spell A Thon starts on Tuesday! Get ready to study your words.                           * Thursday, Valentine's Day, is PINK Shirt Day! Show your support for a Bully Free School by wearing pink!                           * Baby Elena will also be coming on Thursday morning for her 5th visit!                           * On Tuesday afternoon we will have another Mystery Skype.  I wonder what part of the world this class will be   from? Language Arts - This week we will be learning more about the Writing Traits of Word Choice!  We will also continue with our independent choices during Daily Five Math - We will start Lesson 6 and 7, Strategies for Mental Math, and Adding With 3 Digit Numbers. Social Studies - We will present our Reader's Theatre about moving to a new place and continue to learn why people move to New Brunswick.   I hope to skate again this week!  Once I check the schedule I will let you know when it will be! Let's have another Super Star week!
