Mme. Arsenault

Hello! Please check my teacher page daily for updates regarding homework, assignments and the goings on of our classes.

Hello parents and students,

This is a note to let parents know that students have entered the final part of their sciences humaines project.  This was the project where students had to interview their parents or grand-parents.  Students have had 3 full periods this week to work the final part, but will require more time.  I will give them time in class next Monday and Tuesday, however, many have said they would like time at home which I have agreed to, because they do not want homework over the long weekend next weekend which I completely understand.

For the last part of the project, students have to compare their answers to the answers of the people they interviewed.  They have to compare the similarities and differences of the answers.  In other words what has stayed the same or what has changed over time.  They then have to put why they think that change or similarity exists.  For example, grand ma likes soup, I like bacon.  This has changed because maybe there was a difference in the cost of food and grand-ma's family did not have as much money so they would have eaten soup more often.

I am writing in French the example I explained in english above.  It is the same one I had written on the board and explained to the class:

Ma réponse était le bacon.  La réponse de grand-maman était la soupe.  Ça veut dire que la nourriture préféré des enfants à changer à travers le temps parce que peut-etre les prix de la soupe étaient moins cher et la famille de grand-maman pouvaient seulement avoir la soupe parce qu'ils étaient plus pauvre que ma famille aujourd'hui.

This is due next Wednesday morning at the beginning of the day-November 7th 2018.

Hello Parents and Students of Grade 7 FI,

I have been asked by Mme LeClair to share the following message about homework in Santé (Health) Class.  She teaches them once a week and students are forgetting to check her teacher page to remind them about homework.  Please see the following message from her:

Dear parents and students,
Today, students had a homework that was due, but very few completed it. I will still accept copies up until next Monday, but marks will be taken off. This is the homework: in Health Class, the class received a worksheet to complete for the following week. This worksheet is called "Journal Alimentaire." Students must write down everything they eat every day for three days. Then, they must calculate how many portions of each food group (fruits and vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat and substitutes) they ate in one day. Finally, they must compare how much they ate with the recommendations of the Canada Food Guide in order to determine if they eat not enough, enough or too much of each food group. Everyone received a copy of the Canada Food Guide in class. If you lost yours, just Google "Guide alimentaire canadien" and click on the first result. Attached to this note is a copy of the worksheet in case anyone needs another copy.
This worksheet is to be completed in French. I am accepting late copies (marks will be deducted) until our next class, Monday October 29th.

I have attached the document she is speaking about.
Also in a few weeks they will have the follwoing due:
Dear parents and students,
Grade 7FI has a homework due in a month (November 12th) for Health Class. Recently in class, we saw examples of the characteristics of healthy people and unhealthy people. Each student must pick an unhealthy habit they practice and attempt to change it within one month. For example, if your unhealthy habit is that you don't eat enough fruit, for one month you could try to eat one more fruit than usual each day.
Here is what students need to hand in to me: On the due date (November 12th), I am expecting a written half-page describing your unhealthy habit and what you did during the month to try and change it. This work is to be completed in French!
- Mme LeClair

Thanks for your help parents!

Today, students in grade 6 FI Sciences spent science class, went into the trees near the school and observed their surroundings in the local habitats we have around our school.  Students enjoyed the fresh air and an alternative experience to the lab.  We will be doing this again next week,...

Hello parents and guardians of grade 6 Immersion,

Students have been working on creating questions over the last week having to do with interviewing someone who is older than they are.  The goal of the project is for students to examine the differences and similarities over time between their childhoods and those of the person they are interviewing.  Students have created the questions in French and have worked on spelling etc.

I realize that not all students will have access to a parent or relative who speaks French and able to do the interview in French.  Therefore, the interview may be done in English and students will write their assignments in French in class after the interviews are completed.  Students are encouraged to record the interview on their cell phones, mp3 players (I-pod), or tablets.  This will help them with the third and final part of the project in class. They will be allowed to take them out during class time and then promptly return them to their lockers for safe keeping.  If a student does not have access to a device, than they may write the answers down in point form.

I have ensured that all students have their questions with them.  They one and a half weeks to complete the interview at home.  We will begin the final part of the project in class on October 29th 2018.  I am attaching the assignment explanation in French for those who are interested.

Thanks!  The kids are excited to get started!

Hello!  There will be no infos-jeunes this week as we will be doing in class interventions with inferencing and other reading strategies to help support all students who need more work with inferencing in particular.  Inferencing is hard in English and therefore in a second language it can be even more challenging for all second language learners.  I want to take the opportunity to work with students on this strategy before getting them to work on it at home on their own.  Have a great week!
