Today is the day we are going to get to chat with our class! I will send out an email via school messenger earlier on in the week and it will have a schedule of times when each class will be meeting.

STIM Activities (60 minutes)
Today, you will be completing the STIAM or STEM activity in the handout attached to this post. This is the current issue for this week and now we are caught up. As always, I will be attaching the French and English copies of this for your parents’ information and clarity. You can complete it with a sibling, parent or grand-parent. Furthermore, this week students will continue reading at their level using the website. They are encouraged to send me an email if they cannot find their level.

1. As stated in the introduction video, this week we are going to begin exploring expressing an opinion in French. Some of you may already be familiar with this and likely are and this is wonderful, however there is always room for improvement. One of the biggest and easiest ways to do this is by expanding our vocabulary and how we express our opinions. Then try calling a classmate on the phone or a relative who speaks French and using these different ways of expressing an opinion in a conversation!

Writing Activities (10 minutes)
1. For the last weeks you have been working on journals (3) in whatever format you like for a writing activity. This week, I am moving forward with some more specific writing goals in mind, though in a slightly different format than we would in the classroom of course. I would like to explore persuasive and opinion texts. So for today’s writing activity, I want you to come up with a list of subjects that you know are traditional opinion topics, or something that could be an opinion topic for a final writing piece. Keep in mind that the format, aka how you present your opinion piece will change in this new setting if you want it to.

Work through the following inferencing questions. Click on the first link, and it is going to take you to a free online pdf that is a stack of cards with inferencing questions. Do from 1-12 and write down your inferences on a piece of paper as you go. Skip # 2 as this is difficult because of the context. When you are done, check your answers at the second link!

1. Play cards with a family member, either go fish or crazy 8’s or some other card game your family enjoys, but play using the numbers and cards identifiers in French. 1. The verbs avoir and être are the two most important verbs in the french language that in order to know and properly speak and read and write, you need to know these two. If you are unsure of what level or colour you should be reading at, please contact me at nadia.arsenault@nbed.nb.ca and we will figure out together which level would suit you best. Use the audio and read out loud to practice your pronunciation and fluency.
Writing Activity (35 minutes)
1. For today’s writing activity, please refer to the list that you have previously made in order to help with this activity. We are going to put all of our learning together so far this week in order to complete this activity. Be aware that this activity may not take the full time and that is ok! If you finish early, then go and enjoy what you want to do! But, before that, you have to do the following. Firstly, pick a subject from your list. Think about what your stance on the subject is or in other words, what your opinion is. Then, pick one of the new ways you learned to express your opinion and put it all together! For example: Selon moi, il est important que les animaux ne sont pas dans des cages. Now repeat this 5 more times with a different topic and way of expressing yourself each time.

1. For the last few weeks, you have been planning and drafting a journal type writing assignment. Now is the time to finalize those details, as tomorrow, you will begin the good copy or final version of whatever format you have chosen. Some of these ideas included: a journal, a video blog, a comic strip medium or some kind of digital medium. This can be whatever you want it to be. You can share it with your family, or just me, or keep it to yourself. It is meant to be a tool of reflection. Just remember, il faut que ça soit en français!

Oral/Listening Activities (10 minutes)
1. Play the Headbandz activity again from two weeks ago, but make 10 new cards to add to your collection! If you have a family member in your household, a parent or sibling or another relative who speaks French then you can play completely in French! You will need some cut-up pieces of paper and a pencil, pen or marker. Write down 10 words each in French on a different piece of paper each time and then switch piles, face-down. Then pick-up a piece of paper and hold it to your head. The other person then has to get you to say the word without saying the actual word!
OR
2. If you do not have a relative who speaks French, then you can still play option 1, just say the word in French.
Reading Activities (40 minutes)
1. Infos-jeunes-This week’s reading is Donnez l’exemple. Please answer the multiple choice questions only.
OR
2. Email me at nadia.arsenault@nbed.nb.ca and I will send pictures of the readings and the questions that can then be sent to an I-pod or tablet, even if it does not have internet access.
