Writing Activities (50 minutes)

1.     You should have your plan completed now and the option chosen for which path you would like to take to complete your persuasive writing.  This week is all about completing your draft for either your video or your 3 paragraph text.  Normally in class, I would do one on one sessions to guide your writing as you go through each process, looking over plans and drafts.  As this is something that we are not able to do at the moment, I am confident that the other pieces we have written this year will give you the tools you need to complete this at home.  However, as always you can email me with questions I will guide youJ

For today write your introduction or shoot your introduction if you chose the video options.  Use the tools I provided last week and use the introduction examples from Dumbo and interdire les sacs plastiques.

Writing Activities (60 minutes)

You should have chosen your topic and completed your research by now.  This is the point where you need to organize your ideas and make some decisions regarding how you want to present your opinions, arguments and research or evidence.  Please read the following explanations carefully before choosing.

Option 1-Traditional Written Text

This option allows for a traditional text to be written and typed out for the organization.  This is done much in the same way that we would do in class.  Typically in class I expect 5 paragraphs, but for this assignment 3 paragraphs will be plenty.  You will have an intro, a body and a conclusion.  I am attaching some documents that will help with this option and this includes a plan template, a how to write a persuasive or opinion text and the example that we used last week to read and be introduced to this type of text.  I am also going to add the links to the videos from last week where I did a model reading of these example texts so that this will help you with your decision.  Your goal for today should be to complete your plan and start writing your draft intro if you get the plan done early.

Option 2-Video or Presentation Format: Cellphilming or Pecha Kucha

Cellphilming is exactly what it sounds like, a film or video that is shot with a smartphone and edited with technology that is easily accessible.  A Pecha Kucha is 20 slide presentation where each slide is no more than 20 seconds long each and only possesses a photograph or image and has a voice over.  For this option, I am encouraging you to pick the one that best meets your comfort level.  Some people are shy being on camera while some enjoy it.  Please see below for further details regarding each option.

Ø  Cellphilming and editing-Set up your plan using the template provided from option 1.  This will get you started.  Then, before you start filming, you will need to storyboard and plan out what you will do for each shot or scene you will do. Then shoot your scenes.  Make sure to consider lighting, noise level and how clear your speech is.  After, using whatever program you have available to you, edit your cellphilm.  Use windows movie maker, iMovie or any other online platform, as long as you have your parent’s permission. You can add text, scene transitions, music or whatever will help your cellphilm.

Ø  Pecha Kucha-This is very similar in preparation to the Cellphilming option.  Start by making a general plan of your content from the plan in option 1.  Then go into further detail by deciding what image will be on each slide as well as what you will say.  I typically use powerpoint for this option, which you can access through Office 365.  However, there are other online options you could use.  Feel free to explore whatever will work best for you.  For your Pecha Kucha, the 20 slide and 20 second rule need not apply.  Use whatever feels comfortable for you, but remember to have a logical beginning, middle and end.  You should have at least 5 slides.

For now, please concern yourself only with picking which option you should like to do and planning for it.  As always, if you think of another format you would like to do, then please contact me, and we can discuss it and I will offer some guidanceJ.

Think of your plan and arguments like a sandwich. You need an opinion and format for the bread and your arguments and research/evidence is the filling in the middle.  Right now we are working on the bread.

Writing Activity (20 minutes)

1.     Mixing up homophones are some of the most common errors that occur in French when speaking, reading and writing.  When they are misused it creates confusion and fossilized habits that are hard to break.  That is why this week we are going to focus on exercises relating to the different uses for “tout*”.  Go to the following links to practice the difference between these homophones.
