Science 7 / Math 7

Today, we did not do a science lesson so that we could have a double math period.  During our first math class, we finished the section of the unit in which students learn to compare and order fractions and decimal numbers.  Today’s warm-up was a formative assessment on this topic, and the concept reinforcement is page 95 - #5, #6a and #10.  We then began reviewing for next week’s district math benchmark assessment taking place on Wednesday, December 12.  Students were provided with an outline of topics they need to review prior to next Wednesday.  We will review these topics over the next several days in preparation for the assessment.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 6

We continued estimating products and quotients and did a formative assessment on this topic as our warm-up which also included a question on representing decimal numbers in a variety of ways (symbolically, with words and using expanded notation).  After the warm up and after reviewing yesterday’s homework, we had a work period during which we finished the section of the unit on estimating products and quotients.  The concept reinforcement is page 94 - #6 and #7.  At the end of class, students were provided with an outline of topics they need to review prior to next week’s district math benchmark assessment taking place on Wednesday, December 12.  We will review these topics over the next several days in preparation for the assessment.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Science 8 (Math 8)

Today, we did not do a science lesson so that we could begin reviewing for next week’s district math benchmark assessment taking place on Wednesday, December 12.  Students were provided with an outline of topics they need to review prior to next Wednesday.  They were also given a review sheet on integers and 3D objects which most students completed during class.  We will continue to review the topics covered so far this school year over the next several days in preparation for the assessment.  There is no homework.

Math 8

Students wrote their summative assessment on perfect squares, square roots and the Pythagorean Theorem today.  They will write the district math assessment next week, so we will begin reviewing for that Friday.

Math 7

We continued working on Section 3.2 of the unit which teaches students how to compare and order fractions and decimal numbers.  We have been working on comparing fractions using number lines as well as using common denominators.  The concept reinforcement is on page 95 - #7, #8 and #9.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 6

We continued working on Section 3.2 of the unit today which involves estimating products and quotients.  The concept reinforcement is on page 94 - #2 and #5.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 8

We prepared for the summative assessment on perfect squares, square roots and the Pythagorean Theorem.  During the morning math class, students decided they would prefer to write their assessment tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, so that is what is taking place.  We continued to practice during the afternoon math class, and students are encouraged to practice at home tonight.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 7

We continued working on Section 3.2 of the unit which teaches students how to compare and order fractions and decimal numbers.  We have been working on comparing fractions using number lines as well as using common denominators.  Many students said that they did not understand last night’s homework and were unable to complete it.  We reviewed number lines and common denominators in class, and students were asked to retry the concept reinforcement from yesterday (page 94 - #3 and #4).  I will do a homework check tomorrow.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 6

We attended the grades 3, 4 and 5 students’ dress rehearsal of their play in the gymnasium for the entire period.

Math 8

We continued working on the Pythagorean Theorem.  The concept reinforcement for tonight is to practice for the summative assessment (tentatively scheduled for our afternoon math class tomorrow, assuming all goes well in the morning class) using the questions on pages 49 and 50 - #6 TO #11, #13,#14 and #15.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 7

Today, we reviewed fractions and how to represent them as terminating and periodic decimals.  We then continued working on Section 3.2 of the unit which teaches students how to compare and order fractions and decimal numbers.  We have been working on comparing fractions using number lines as well as using common denominators.  The concept reinforcement for tonight is on page 94 - #3 and #4.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 6

We reviewed how to represent decimal numbers in a variety of ways (symbolically, with words and using expanded notation).  We began Section 3.2 of the unit today which involves estimating products and quotients.  Students were provided with the necessary vocabulary for this section of the unit and are asked to review their notes tonight.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Science 7

We reviewed procedure writing when it comes to science experiments, especially the use of the imperative verb tense.  We also did an activity in which students were required to identify verbs conjugated using the imperative verb tense in a step-by-step procedure and then perform the actions these verbs required, resulting in the creation of a puppet.  There is no homework.

Math 8

We continued working on the Pythagorean Theorem.  The concept reinforcement for tonight is on pages 44 and 45 - #10 TO #14.  After today’s lesson, I now feel that students will be ready for a test on the Pythagorean Theorem next Tuesday (Dec. 4).  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 7

Today, students continued learning how to compare and order fractions and decimal numbers.  The concept reinforcement is to complete Example 4 from today’s lesson which you can find in the pdf file below.

Math 6

We continued discussing decimal numbers and how to represent them in a variety of ways (in a table, with words, symbolically and using expanded notation).  After the warm up and after reviewing yesterday’s homework, we had a work period during which almost all students were able to complete a worksheet (pages 32 and 33).  Answer keys were provided at the end of class, and students corrected their work.  Anyone who did not complete the worksheet was asked to complete and correct it at home.  [No peeking at the answers!  J ]  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 8

We reviewed and continued working on the Pythagorean Theorem.  The formative assessment from yesterday on the Pythagorean Theorem was returned to students today, and we reviewed it together.  It was sent home for signatures.  (Report cards also need to be returned with signatures, please.)  The concept reinforcement (a.k.a. homework) for tonight is on pages 43 and 44 - #6abcd, #7abc, #8 and #9.  I estimate that we’ll be ready for a test on the Pythagorean Theorem next Wednesday or Thursday (Dec. 5 or 6).  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Math 7

Today, students continued learning how to compare and order fractions and decimal numbers.  We also had an important discussion regarding the way in which we complete homework and show our work.  Because of this, today’s concept reinforcement (a.k.a. homework) is the same as yesterday:  complete Example 2 from class using Example 1 (which we did a second time as several students said they did not understand yesterday) as well as Friday’s concept reinforcement (page 89 - #5, #6, #9 and #10).  This is the last time students will be given multiple opportunities to do their homework properly.  You can see today’s lesson in detail in the pdf file below.

Today, I have sent home an early report for students that I teach.   Please check your child’s duotang to see the report card comment and mark for strands covered in term two.  I will be on Medical leave until after Christmas.   I will be available Wednesday should anyone want to meet for an early parent teacher.  You can also email me at angela.mcquaidmurphy@nbed.nb.ca if you would like me to give you a call to discuss your child’s progress in term one.  Please note that I will not be available to meet at the regular parent teacher time at the end of the month.

-Today we worked on estimating square roots of numbers that are not perfect squares.  Students will need a pencil and a ruler for class each day.

Math 7

-Today we continue our work with tables and relationships.   Students are to complete the first page of questions from the text in the notes posted below.   We will continue this work tomorrow before the remembrance day ceremony.  All questions will be due Tuesday.

Math 6

-Today we went over the work from yesterday.   Students saw the importance of having a title for their graph.  We also went over how to write a relationship and expression from a table.  If not completed the formative test in class it is for homework for tomorrow morning.

-Test is tentatively planned for Wednesday.

-Students had time to work on Mathletics today.   We aso continued our work on algebra.  Quiz Wednesday.  Quiz will be similar to the review sheet 1.3 that we corrected as a class today.

-We were in the lab today for science class using microscopes.  

-Students did a review sheet in class today.

-Formative test will be Wednesday.  Summative test is tentatively booked for Tueday.
